What if you want to add another panel. How are you going to get it through the 2nd grommet and through into the van when it's all full of seal.

Just out of curiosity: When cutting the wires, should you be aware not to cut through the cable in one instance, but cut eacht wire separately to avoid short-circuiting the solar panel? I could imagine that the panel is already feeding, given the caravan is directly standing in the sun? (I'm Dutch, so hope my question is clear and understandable enough)

If you are height challenged and are setting up by yourself this is excellent , just make sure you lubricate the awning rail first. I have a 2/3rds awning.

I’m planning on fitting my 170w kit this weekend, but to keep the battery box tidy I’m planning on using bus bars inside the caravan as I also have motor mover wires cluttering things up.

Very well explained. Although the Maxview set up is more expensive than some cheaper ones, its obvious its a far easier set up and a much better quality product. I plan to get one next spring time as I'm fed up with trying to get a lousy Freeview signal in many locations, and I don't want to pay money for streaming when I hardly ever use that method. Thanks for posting the video.

In this particular fitting, you wouldn’t need any screws. He has made sure it’s water tight, that the surface is clean and that it’s been primed. Adding screws, in my opinion would decrease the waterproof value of the roof. A great install in my opinion. Of course, adding screws might make you feel better; if you’re old school, however the 222 sealant is better than any screw. The only thing I do not recommend is that cheap Chinese controller unit. Victron all the way for me!

That looked like a aluminium skinned roof so you should have put some protective sheathing around your drilled hole because eventually the sharp ali edge with cut thru the cable covering due to the movement of the van so you’ll end with with bare metal contact between the + & - cables.

Had a full system fitted by this workshop in June 2022. Very professional service and communications, very pleased with the system and the full explanation at handover. While these systems come at a price, remember you are looking at 2 guys labour for a day on a caravan, there is no doubt these need to be fitted by people who know what they are doing and this video prompted me to use this company, even though it was a 3 hour drive, the workshop also recommended an overnight stopping site just 10 minutes away, ready for an early start next morning, that was also superb. What you will find is that a caravan needs to be in a real nose down position to start with, otherwise the system will not activate

Mini Winter Solar Tip: A boiler and all other hungry electricity consumers can be infinitely dimmed with the "5000W dimmer". Ebay €7. I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs 12 hours a day, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos on my channel kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3SVoJ-YeKebnpI The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs remain intact because no extreme current peaks arrive at the inverter. Now every Mini PV Inverter is enough to sell large devices. So, with the dimmer, all internal heaters/devices can be converted into base load devices that stay almost permanently ON, drawing very little current directly from the PV. With a wattmeter / energy cost measuring device you can then measure this perfectly in order to set the dimmer optimally. A little hint (for everyone else): Energy cannot be saved. So if I want to boil my water, I always have to use the same amount of energy for one liter. Christian's method relies on a longer period of time with less power in order to be able to use the power provided by the PV as efficiently as possible - so consumption peaks are intercepted. In the end, the energy consumption should even be (slightly) higher due to the interposition of the dimmer, but it doesn't matter, since more efficient coverage by the PV system and therefore better use of the self-generated energy...

I have noticed a lot of dirt accumulates under solar panels and will lead to streaking down the side of the van. I wonder if it's worthwhile to seal off the underside of the panel using some L-section PVC extrusions glued on with silicone sealer. OTOH this would cause moisture retention underneath the panel. Don't know if that matters.

In your "premium" van you have satellite connection? In our entry level budget Adria we had the same connections. Don't believe what the salesmen tell you. The wiring is standard. Oh, and our van was a 2014 model.

Great video lads I’m thinking of doing the same thing but I’m worried about working on it while the panel is glued to the roof When you cut the cable does it not short out as the solar panel is in the roof generating power and can it give a a shock when wires are being touched just like if you were were working on a live household socket the brown will be live 👍👍

The solar panel generates the power to only charge the battery. From there you use an inverter to convert it to 24volt power.
