Same old story. Either wrong items at the right price or go to posh areas and it's the right items at the wrong price so it's a lose/lose.

The mind shop prices are mind blowing no pun intended. My mrs use to work in a kind charity shop and anything that didn’t sell would get boxed up and sent to another mind shop in another town or city and visa virsa in Northampton would of been £8 not £17.75 lol

The prices are a joke now. And when you factor in how barely of the profit actually goes to the people they claim to be helping but to shareholders, CEOs and the like. Its just pure greed. I still find bits but its hard when some bits are asking for £15 now for a basic nike hoodie

Knowing how much stuff is available to the thrift stores in Canada, I would like to see things sold for a quick sale. I think in the end, more people would shop and more stuff could be sold.

I worked for a charity as a driver supplying the shops with the collected donations. It is scandalous the amount of perfectly good saleable items that are simply binned immediately. It's also scandalous the amount of middle and upper management including directors that are employed in pointless rolls and the ridiculous amounts that they are paid for doing very little. Only a fraction of the proceeds actually benefits the charity.

Remember charity shops should also be for those people on low incomes. So they should be affordable. So what if resellers make a living from Charity shops. As tge women said Things should be priced to sell. These boutique type shops with unaffordable prices will soon close

Love this concept of asking them the questions, how nice was that manager?! I think there needs to be a middle ground with the pricing. Yes, they may be asking a fair price even if it's high, but they don't have the footfall to command that price in a charity shop imo. Price to sell, like that manager said, and they get the stock sold and out the door at a fair price. One of our local shops is a bit on the higher side, but at the end of every season they have so much stock left that they sell it all half price, then reduce it further, if they lowered it a bit, it would sell more consistently. Little village charity shop up the road is very well priced, standard price on clothes no matter the brand, and they do banging sales where every item in the shop is three items for £1.
@ChaddypeteАй бұрын
I’m all for the turning over of stock especially if the cost of goods is low. It makes for a more interesting shop as well if things change a lot
@correnataylor6944Ай бұрын

Always makes me a angry when you go into a charity shop and they are asking £150+ for a jacket, pair of trainers etc. Who's going into a charity shops and dropping that amount of money on a donated item. Majority of people shopping in charity shops are doing so because they can't afford to shop new / want a bargain / shopping sustainably. If they want that sort of money from an item they should list it online via their already established retail portals. I personally find it infuriating when I'm in a charity shop and everything is priced like a boutique. The people in charge / working there don't have a clue on pricing and generally don't know how to use eBay. That Ralph Lauren shirt in the video is a prime example. Also charging more based on your location 😡. Not everyone in a wealthy area is wealthy
@ChaddypeteАй бұрын
They need to always find a balance! They can charge what they want but I know shops that have closed because the top brass say they can’t change them!
@finjibunsАй бұрын
@Chaddypete agree they are allowed to charge what they like but we are now in a situation (in London in particular) where charity shops cost more than actual vintage shops you'd find in Camden etc and they have all beeen refurbished in the last 2 years to look like posh boutiques. At what point do the government stop subsidising shops that no longer exist to support those who can't afford to buy new and exist purely to line the pockets of the charity owners who as we know only donate a portion of the money raised to the actual charity. They forget they are meant to have a dual purpose for existing.

Great video. Most shops are pricing up which is a fair price for people buying for themselves but no good for reselling. When items are donated for free it should be more about getting things sold quick to make cash for the charity instead of overpricing for it to sit around and end up selling to a ragmill for 50p a kilo.
@ChaddypeteАй бұрын
They wish they could sell it to a rag mill for that price, it’s more like 15p nowadays!
