Charge a retainer for the appointment; if they show, then that retainer goes towards the total cost of the appointment; if they no-show, it's not the FULL appointment fee, but, it's something. Also, the client having a non-refundable fee imposed, having some skin in the game, helps to ensure they show up.

Kate You probably just need to start making your clients pay a deposit. And if they cancel you keep the deposit. That's how a lot of places are doing it. Sorry, to hear that happened to you.

He canceled TWICE! I would have required payment up front when he rescheduled. People will show up if they already put the money down. Charge a booking fee or some sort of deposit. Some people don't care how their actions effect others. Take care of you!

$120? How bad off was the dog that it would cost $120? Sounds like that man got fired by another groomer and let his dog get all messed up. I would start requiring a deposit and change that cancellation policy to 2 business days. Respect your weekends. Monday grooms need to let you know before the weekend starts.

I can see both sides. I wouldn't want to pay for something I didn't receive. At the same time, I wouldn't cancel for some BS reason. The man had what, a month to figure out how to get his dog to walk on a leash? I think charging for the whole groom on a cancelation is a bit steep, but what happens if you set aside a whole day to groom a matted St Bernard for $300 and they no show? That isn't fair to you. Maybe require a deposit to secure the appointment? $25 for stuff under $100 and 50% for over $100? People will show up if they already paid a portion.

Thank you! By learning how to properly hold the scissors, I was able to fix some of the choppy appearance from her last groom. Her face still shows some cut lines, which is expected when a dog won't hold its head still. I also realized that the black markings on the sides are not even close to even. In the past, I over-trimmed the right side to make her look even. I was able to correct that a bit with my new skills.

A lot of that bucket full came from trimmings and using the undercoat rake. I do not use those daily. I just use the grooming gloves and a slicker brush. During the summer, I am brushing out about 2 grapefruit-sized balls. During the winter, about half that.

Are you OK? Why are you laughing????
@KateBonnyCountry
@KateBonnyCountry 2 ай бұрын
I'm OK. I was laughing because I filmed this about 10 minutes after it happened. I put an ice pack on it for about 10 minutes to control the swelling. Then, Doc did one of his little comedy routines talking about how he was going to have a lot of explaining to do to my mother and that the world will think he beat me up. So, I was cracking up when I started filming. Shortly after, the pain started setting in. I had a constant I-am-going-to-sneeze tickle in my nose and something that felt like a continuous ice cream headache going on for about 4 hours. Today, it is bruised, but I don't think there is any broken bone. The cartilage took the hit, and my septum is now deviated slightly to the left.

The town closest to me has an entire police force consisting of one chief, 1 full-time officer, and 2 part-time officers. The chief resigned, and the full-time officer was arrested for drug trafficking the next day. Then, one of the part-time officers decided to quit the following week. We still have coverage from the county, but finding a new chief and replacement officers has been challenging.

@@user-yk8qe2vy4r A little over a month. With 4 dogs getting 1 each day, a dozen lasts 3 days. A single batch will make 5-6 dozen depending on size and shape. So, 10-12 dozen is 30-36 days.

What a sneaky boy Rascal is! He knows a good thing when he sees one!
@KateBonnyCountry
@KateBonnyCountry 2 ай бұрын
He reminded me of Pete (the dog) from the original Little Rascals when he grabbed the treats. I also fussed, "You rascal!" when he grabbed them. So, he named himself. Generally, the shelter director does not like to name the animals. When necessary, he has to euthanize animals. It is an emotionally difficult task, and naming the animals makes it all the more difficult.

The ONLY times I saw any sign of aggression was when I moved too quickly. That is the only reason why I recommend a home without small children. Once a child is 8 or 9, he or she should be able to understand that moving slowly will be needed at first.

No sudden movements. Do you think he would be OK as an apartment dog?
@KateBonnyCountry
@KateBonnyCountry 2 ай бұрын
That is hard to say. He has been confined to a small pen since arriving at the shelter and does not show excessively restless, pacing behaviors. He also seemed to understand that there were boundaries in the basement. He did not try to drag me into areas off-limits to pets. I think he would be OK in an apartment provided he is not confined to one room all day and gets plenty of exercise and attention when the owners are home.

No Sudden Movements. Did he try to bite you? I didn't see any agression.
@KateBonnyCountry
@KateBonnyCountry 2 ай бұрын
He snarled and nipped but did not connect when I first tried to put the harness on him at the shelter. Most likely, I moved too quickly. I did not give him time to sniff it before moving in to put it on him. Then, right after my battery died, I tried to lift his tail and shave his sanitary area. He growled, so I put an Elizabethan collar (aka cone) on him. When that was on, he started a low growl and heavy panting. Those indicate high stress, so I removed the cone and called it a day. The only times he gave me warning signs was when I moved too fast for his liking, so that is why I believe he would not do well with small children.
