I’ve never heard of leaving the cannula in until you find another vein… this is very helpful in patients on thinners

There are much better options than the 2 you presented.. I have done strictly outpatient joints for almost 3 years.. I use neither, our patients do incredibly well.. no urinary retention and no problems with hypotension

I do not like the cannula that is used in the video but some good tips. I have never in my life felt the need to bend the needle. The best needle is the BD venflon. (Neuro Anaesthetist with 20 years experience)

1:15 “advance the catheter after flash back” Aren’t we supposed to do it in this fashion: Flash back -> lower angle --> advance the needle slightly --> thread the catheter

I made the mistake of smoking weed before a small procedure. Needless to say, I was so baked that when I got to the hospital, I started to freak the hell out and ran away from the hospital lol. Had to reschedule and come back. Doctor was pissed.

As someone with GAD, I occasionally have hand tremors when I'm <1ft proximity to strangers who fidget and make sudden movements towards me. How would this affect my aspirations towards being an anesthesiologist?

I'm beyond a hard stick. It scares me to death going to hospital only because I know the pain that awaits me while they fish around as if it doesn't hurt. It hurts sooooooo bad. Thank God for hospitals that have the ultrasound tech. They Al should. Cuz one day they might need to save me and won't do it in time.

I have this. Used to be perfectly semetrical. The intense pain happened for a few weeks only between the hours of 1-5am. Then I noticed my right front delt, lats, and serratus anterior were gone. Just gone. Can't actively raise my arm all the way. It SUCKS. Been 3 years.

I personally have not been impressed. I have personally used it on a small series of healthy patients undergoing shoulder arthroscopy, in a mixture of 10ml 0.5% bupivacaine + 10ml exparel and personally followed up with them in the first few postoperative days. The all had a successful intraoperative analgesia with demonstrable sensorimotor block within 20-30minutes that, at best, lasted 18-24h, and all of my patients reported resolution of block and full recrudescence of pain in <24h. All blocks were technically easy and we're placed in the usual fashion in the plane between the anterior border of the MSM and brachial plexus sheath with good spread observed. I personally either placed the block myself or supervised the resident and injected the medication myself. Results like these have been disappointing and for patients for whom multiple days of analgesia is required, we will just continue placing catheters.

I just had hip replacement. There was a resident shadowing. Anesthesia "without asking me" let them try 4 TIMES and they still didn't get it. Anesthesia got it first try. I've had 3 others previously, no problems. I was pissed!

That’s the problem with going to a teaching hospital. You may have consented for a trainee to try when you signed all those papers. That said, how else are we going to learn? Don’t forget that the anesthesiologist was once just like that trainee and learned on patients. That’s the reason he or she got it on the first try. No other reason. Sorry it sucked though.
