I read Alden does not recommend Saphir cordovan cream
@wishoeguy7 күн бұрын
It’s difficult to recommend something when you white label something else as a substitute. Alden treats their shell and overall I’m not a fan of how it ages. So I donated all my Alden shell. That said you need to do what you’re most comfortable with for your shoes. If you’re more comfortable using what the recommend, go for it. I like Saphir better because it’s easier to work with that others. I like the results best with Pure Polish cordovan cream which is new. Angry the founder is a shoe guy and he’s really built a great formula that works.

From the bottom in row one and top to bottom in row two after crossing. Cross underneath and repeat. You’ll get the hang of it.
Beautiful shoes, every model of theirs that I've seen is a masterwork..

Nice sum-up! Which do you think is the aesthetically superior brand when comparing Vass and Norman in a U-shape derby?
@wishoeguy14 күн бұрын
I’ll always choose NV over Vass. The quality of Vass is top notch and is always hand welted but NV are just more attractive

@@wishoeguy Thank you for sharing. Coincidentally, I was just writing to Vilalta when your comment came through. I think I know what you mean: the refinement of the lasts and the styling in the details seems superior with Vilalta. In my case, I think I'm going to need some slight modifications to what I'm getting through them on a ready-made basis - some slight changes to the sizing/fit, a different leather. Out of curiosity have you ever done this with them? Even if smaller adjustments (rather than a radically new style in any way) I'm wondering whether I would end up being a bespoke order with Vilalta. Any tips as to how to approach this with them?

I believe its shinki horsehide by japanese tanner Manufactured by Flame Panda Bootmaker by Chinese bootmaker family owned small company that order takes 1-1.5year lead time price around starts 1000$ above what you want
@jaspreetsinghanand10 күн бұрын
Hello yes I am aware of shinki horse hide as well as there horse butt and shell cordovan. I saw maryam horse butt as well as shinki could not find this colour.Love the colour in this monkey boot it's mesmerizing. By manufacturer I was asking the leather manufacturer you clarified shinki thank you for it . Can you also confirm the name of the colour of the horse butt as I am sure hide from the rump/hide is not cordovan till they state it's cordovan. Got junkard service shell in natural shell 4 years back getting the itch to buy something new😅 Ofcourse big fan of flame panda and iron boots from china both makers boots are hard to get hands on due to the tremendous waiting periods
@wishoeguy10 күн бұрын
This color is whiskey and it is Shinki horsebutt. Shinki and Maryam name colors differently and the colors are often translated differently. EG I bought cordovan from a Chinese maker who translated the color as brown and from a Japanese maker who translated as whiskey. I’d recommend with any maker (Junkkard included) that you share pictures of the color. I have some whiskey cordovan from Ogawa (which refinishes Shinki shell) from Midas that is pretty different from any other whiskey I have. Wonderful stuff but had it not been for sharing pics along the way I may not have been expecting what I got. Most of the makers I’ve dealt with are very concerned with meeting expectations and try hard to accommodate my weird requests for pics.

@@wishoeguy thank you for giving the information regarding your beautiful boots and also giving a heads up regarding difference in colours even though name being the same These days refinishing leather is a thing especially among the south east asian boot makers. Never the less sagara too was unsure regarding the leather when I sent the screenshot of the video to them he said it is chromexcel brown 😂.So difficult to explain them that the video says horse butt clearly 😊 Thanks once again. Appreciated

Not layers of leather. Just the surface to allow the oil in the leather to move and fill in scratches.

The Saphir one does look a little bit better. It basically $10 a can and I’m not sure there’s too much juice to squeeze. Is the price of a couple bags of chips in America so I wouldn’t fret too much about the price. People who wear dress shoes are probably not concerned about an extra three dollars. They probably rather spend the extra three dollars to be honest with you. And I have a bunch of pairs of shoes and I’ve never ran out of a single product in the past five years so far. I’d rather spend the extra three dollars just in case, I think most people are probably my mindset. And if you’re spending that much on a pair of shoes I probably wouldn’t be bothered by the price of wax.

There is not a thing wrong with Blake stitch. I have a pair of Blake rapid shearling boot and a pair of suede loafers. Both shoes are good quality and completely resoleable. In some instances, my boots for example, Blake is nicer than many Goodyear shoes I’ve handled. The ones you have in hand would also fit that bill.

You can’t put extra cream polish in the wax space. As you suggest it won’t close.

Didn’t you say the TLB was on par if not better than G and G? Not sure I would pay 3 times more or Four for diminishing returns. Just saying… also , to say walking on air in dress shoes is quite the statement. You might want to check yourself, again just sayin …. 😂
@wishoeguyАй бұрын
It’s not on par with G&G. Many people will compare the artists line with G&G because of the soles and finishing but the actual construction level and materials at G&G is much better. Better leather components soles and craft. You get a lot you can’t see. But if you can’t afford it and you just want nice shoes that will last, TLB makes a great shoe. The leather… if you think of G&G making one pair per hide (which is probably an exaggeration) TLB will make 10. Just different tolerance for perfection. Very well made and high enough standards you wouldn’t notice.

Does the horsehair come out easily. When you buffing your shoes? I used to use a Saphir brush. When I brushed all my shoes and the horsehair came out easily.
@wishoeguyАй бұрын
It’s not as dense as my dad’s old horsehair brush but it’s better than most on the market today. It does shed some hair but after the first few uses it’s more like 1-2 hairs every time you brush your shoes

Probably too late now but I think a step (pun intended) too far 🙂. There's nice sneakers out there with full grain leather uppers and leather linings. And they don't all have margom soles either. Look at the Loake Bannister for example which also has excellent arch support and is readily available. Cheaney also sell some retro trainers (in collaboration with old English brand Walsh) though I haven't tried them. Plus some margom soled trainers made by Goral. If you're able to wait, Goral under their own name do blake stitched, fully resoleable ones in a variety of leathers from Horween and Italian tanneries etc. Similarly Crown Northampton do resoleable ones in Horween leathers, deerskin etc and will even build one with veg tanned leather toe puff, heel counter and insole and shell cordovan outer (at a price). You don't have to compromise too much.
@UnknownUser-rb9pdАй бұрын

How would you compare this brand to John lofgren boots in terms of quality and fit and finish?
@supermarioxs1Ай бұрын
Why pay 3 times more for a couple of extra bells and whistles? Doesn’t make sense. Example : I play acoustic guitar , years ago I purchased a Martin premium guitar , model D-41. It looks almost identical to the flagship D-45 which is almost twice the money 💰… $5400 vs $9500… What’s the difference ? A little more decorative embellishment and they say a slightly higher grade wood on the top … but looking at both from the front they almost look identical and sound wise nearly identical also . Obviously I chose the D-41 and I still have it 10 years later and it still looks amazing and sounds even better as it has aged . So my point is, TLB Mallorca !!! Superb brand and value ….
