Switchin’ to glide” was a line I came up with when I was thinking about how my dad used to coast down hills sometimes when we were on family vacations. I think we were in Allegany State Park, and there are long hills there, and we kids thought it was cool that he would put the car in neutral and coast for what seemed like miles. I was probably in the Benz driving around and kinda spacing out on that, and thought about doing that in the sky in an airplane, and the phrase “switchin’ to glide” just came to me. I didn’t know it would make it into a song. I told Dave about the idea and it just happened to fit with something he was working on. Of course trying to glide in a powered airplane is not a good idea there, kids!

There have been two great travesties in the history of rock 'n' roll: 1). That The Monkees are not in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame. 2). That "This Beat Goes On/Switchin" To Glide" never made the Top 40. This is a REALLY good performance!

Did you see McCartney and his band singing the Monkees theme as they walked to the stage at the O2 in London last week? They had a big impact for sure, however, there's quite a few we might put ahead of them that aren't in either. And we got close to the Top 40...it's a long story why we didn't.

This is what I sing on the bicycle sometimes to myself , sometimes out loud, for as long as this glorious song has been around. Rarely one other song ~ Ramones ~ Sedated. The Kings contributed huge levels of audio pleasure to my life. Huge. I've had a very weak sense of balance all my life. Born with problem inner ears. If i close my eyes while standing I fall over. I discovered a very weird remedy. Singing keeps me from falling over for no apparent reason. Maybe the singing takes over the areas so 43:10 useless for balance. Maybe shunts it over to proprioception?&&

Living in Yakima during the 80s, I enjoyed listening to CFUN from Vancouver BC because canadian rock and roll was still as raw and fun as you could ever wish for.

Radio here has to play 30% Canadian content so we fell into that which is great but also means you got to hear other cool stuff from Canada. We were lucky because we had a hit all over the US which a lot of Canadian bands never did..thanks for listening Andy!

Thanks lolaanava6686, but we're pretty sure you'd get a lot of argument about that! 'Punk' was a thing that morphed into 'new wave', both were marketing terms used to categorize music which helps sell the product. The Ramones were great and so were the Cars, and were examples of the best of these two genres. We always felt we were a rock band plain and simple. We did wear funny clothes for a while, but that was to sell beer in bars like a freak show. Thanks for the comment!
