Personally i wouldve prefered if the story was about a guy being too good at making robots that kill and the robot ends up killing its creator but then just takes its creator's place. its kinda what i already thought had happened in the game itself until you brought up the possibility of it being an actual person, and that he simply just wasnt responding because bad game. i think it wouldve been interesting anyway. the whole time you think youre figuring out this guy's deal along with the characters and then when the end of second act confrontation happens its revealed that none of the psychological or emotional hang ups you read about work (or have worked up to that point) because youre dealing with a burgeoning artificial intelligence piloting a robot thats only reference for its identity is the myths and realities of serial killers and its creator that made the robot for the purpose of imitating them.
@RatatTalks11 сағат бұрын
Yeah putting a bit more emphasis on the robots would’ve been cool, would perhaps be a good twist to add to that terrible confrontation scene
@mr.e312311 сағат бұрын
@@RatatTalks thered also be alot of thematic overlap where we have this group of people studying serial killers and what makes them tick, and what circumstances create them, an their history. and theyd be confronted with a threat that is quite literally made wholecloth from the study of serial killers how they tick and their circumstances. itd justify why holmes is even part of this story to begin with. because the ai would be trained on his philosophy among its other references. which you could also broaden into a more generalized take on all serial killers and the sensationalism around them.

I only played the first few parts, but found the dialogue atrocious and the plotline uninspired. Does it pick up later? I’d happily give it another go, but for me the Wehdonisms and the generic isekai adjacent plotline did very little for me.

using hallucinations as a crux for your story feels to me with almost a frustration with the premise of fantasy and the ability to believe in something that isnt real - that its on us for thinking the fantastical could appear even in a story. like i often find that theres little difference if it was real or if it wasn't thematically other than lowering the stakes to an abysmal degree.
@RatatTalks11 сағат бұрын
For sure! It feels like a ‘oh you thought this would be at all fantastical? Surprise idiot!’

@@RatatTalks holy shit supermassive dropped off my radar so hard after 2022, i literally did not know this got made, WOW LMAO. hopefully it was a financial thing because this uhhh does not look good! it does not look good... i mean for what its worth, looks pretty limited by the source material, so? here's hoping? definitely getting something Until Dawn tier? literally impossible since until dawn already exists - but i really liked every other dark pictures game! here's hoping that sci-fi horror is simply too good of a genre to fumble. you've prolly said it somewhere else before, but what's your top pick from the DPA catalogue? it's close to being house of ashes for me but ngl, i REALLY liked man of medan, probably moreso.

i feel like ambiguity could have really helped this game more any sort of maybe this is a reincarnation or some sort of silent hill or signalis style real-and-unreal setting would have made the ending not feel like "oh so this just didnt happen and the characters except for one just dont matter". I'm also opposed to "it was all a dream/in this persons head" style stories as they kinda just bite the player for believing in fiction as fiction rather than interpreting everything in an overly mundane realist perspective.
@RatatTalks11 сағат бұрын
I agree with the latter point, I love a bit of whimsy and fantasy. The desire for ambiguity was a big part of my proposed changes, and I feel it benefits a game as psychological as this, especially as that is such a focus of stated inspirations.

So, if you keep all characters alive, the Currator explains how they've changed : 1. Kate had a past trauma and overcame it 2. Jamie's learned to trust people 3. Erin, despite being easily spooked, showed immense courage to survive 4. Mark stopped waiting for others to tell him what to do 5. Charlie realised that being a leader isn't just about bossing around None of these character arcs really happened. Maybe the one you can say is about Erin. Kate's trauma was mentioned in one or maybe two scenes. Jamie only distrusted Kate and Charlie at the beginning, but she clearly didn't know Kate well, and Charlie's company was failing, plus he was a controlling man. Mark had one dialogue about leaving his current job by the end. Charlie didn't take leadership after everything went to hell. He didn't become a better team player either.

So glad you made this, I hadn't played this game yet, but watching your videos about the other Dark Pictures, I decided to finally give this one a try, too, so I can watch your video about it as soon as it drops! Most of my guys died though, unlike the previous games, I either didn't care enough or was too dumb to figure out how to do it. The final guy literally died because I pressed the wrong button in a QTE, in the VERY LAST encounter of the game, and I still didn't feel like a re-do...

Another Ratat banger I personally liked DiM for the aesthetics and some of the atmosphere. Things like the notes from previous victims, the trap dioramas, the body count tracker in the main room and the audio logs were really unsettling and especially the curing room scenes. I just feel like it could have been so much more. I think that the nature of Holmes as this mythological figure and the way that the subsequent copycats leading down to DuMet are just copying themselves back to this fictionalized version of the man would have been a really interesting thing to explore. You're looking at a copy of a copy of a version of a man that didn't really exist.
