Hi to all, new to watches like these. I have a question regarding winding. For automatic watch which is self-winding, assuming I wear it every single day for the rest of my life, would that mean that I never need to wind my automatic watch ever ? Because the only reason ( correct me if I'm wrong ) to manual wind an automatic watch would be when the power reserve is gone and the time completely stops. Would appreciate answers from anyone experienced, thank you !

Hi, I was looking up the power reserve of the 1901, it's advertised as 40 ish hours but I am currently timing my and I'm at 49 hours and the seconds hand is still going. Why not advertise the movement as having a higher PR. Perhaps if you engage the chronograph you would get less but I was looking for opinions about this.

That was interesting. I have this easy-link in one of my replicas, and I was never able to use it because it was set into short position and manufactured too tight. Now - with a bit of knowledge about the construction - I was able to release the mechanism with small pliers and some gentle force in the center of the links. Excellent.

Thanks bruh! But I've a question and please answer me ASAP! I accidentally dropped my automatic watch and after that sometimes it stops working (went to watchmaker and said that the rotor needs to be replaced), but when it's on stable object then it works just perfect!, So what do you think about that problm?
@prestigetime2 жыл бұрын
Ideally you want to wear the watch and not just have it work on a table. Sounds like it needs some TLC from a good watchmaker.

My AR 5905 automatic watch stopped, I wound it very time but still not working 🤨
@prestigetime2 жыл бұрын
Winding it won't help. This is a quartz watch (Battery-powered) and therefore is not powered by an automatic (self-winding) mechanical movement like the ones mentioned in this video. Take it to a jeweler or a watchmaker and get the battery replaced and it should work (if that's what is wrong with it).

i dont understand why they say to wear the watch to keep it wound after you wound it by hand? these watches that are wound by hand do not have spinning rotors like the ones where you dont need to do it by hand but do need to keep motion by wearing it ,also how long do you have to wind those rotos for them to work long and how long will this be before you need to keep motion on them again? mine dies in the middle of the night most of the time ,is this because i did not spin the rotor long enough or does it need to be cleaned or fixed? also does over winding make the time go faster?
@prestigetime2 жыл бұрын
Even automatic watches need to be manually wound by hand once in a while if the power reserve has run out of spring tension. Not everyone actively moves their wrists throughout the day enough to top up the power reserve. Additionally the longer the power reserve duration a watch has, the longer the watch work properly on a full wind without having to be wound up using the crown until the spring is fully tightened. If a watch was sitting on a shelf for a few weeks, the power reserve is likely fully unwound and therefore needs to be wound before wearing it in order to ensure uninterrupted power. Yes, moving around constantly can keep it fully wound but many people don't move as much as necessary for that to happen.

@@prestigetime i have not seen any automatic wrist watches that have a winding knob(crown?) ,these ones need to be spun by hand gyrating motion and worn for them to keep ticking

It is necessary to wind RADO DIASTAR manually before wearing ?
@prestigetime2 жыл бұрын
All automatic watches should have a mainspring that is fully tightened in order for it to have enough power for the day. The automatic winding rotor is used to keep the power reserve topped up throughout the day by converting your kinetic energy into tighter spring tension within the movement.

Does sweat damage the watch in any way?

Depends on the watch. Moisture in general can be detrimental to watches that don't have significant water resistance.

This video: Automatic watches have rotor and need to be wound. My chinese watch ith fake crown that was mailed instead of Laptop: Works despite i havent touched it for months. Perpetum mobile?
@prestigetime3 жыл бұрын
Albeit rare, some automatic watches do not have the ability to be pre-wound by hand via the crown. If the winding rotor moves around enough inside the movement it can get the watch going, but usually, this is not enough to FULLY wind the mainspring and get the most running time out of the watch's full power reserve.
@ponyfucker34273 жыл бұрын
thx for the reply. turns out I just probably have quartz watch but this is interesting.

Rolex got the idea of the perpetual movement from John Harward, a watch maker from the isle of Man. Rolex even recognised John Harward as the inventor when they advertised the perpetual movement they were using.
@prestigetime3 жыл бұрын
You must be referring to John Harwood who made what is believed to be the first mass-produced automatic wristwatch in 1926. Abraham-Louis Breguet, mentioned in this article had these in pocketwatches in the 1780s.

Are you suppose to wear the rolex extended or shorten?
@jessej96133 жыл бұрын
I think that depends on you. You see my wrist expands when I warm up so I would start the day on a short setting and extend as my wrist expands and may shorted again if I cool down in the evening. Mostly this is a Aussie Spring/Summer thing for me. The Submariner has the Glidelock system which I think should be standard on any stainless steel bracelet, it allows for more adjustment, very jealous on the sub, nice watch but I couldn't afford it.

It has to move for quite some time to fully wind the mainspring. If it's one of the models that doesn't have a winding crown, consider keeping it on a watch winder for a day or two before wearing it. If it has a winding crown, make sure to wind it fully before putting it on your wrist.
