Here’s the good thing. Those tracks are not a total loss. They can always go to something else and will get placed for other good things. I always look at it that way. It’s never a total loss.

I always like the simplicity of your cues. Here's a kick, here's a clap, here's a hat, here's a simple catchy groove. Some instruments and risers, and it bangs. I think a lot of producers are trying to reinvent the wheel, but they never need to

Thanks so much, and I agree! Sometimes we see these massive sessions from these amazing KZbinrs (I'm looking at you Andrew Huang and Jacob Collier) and it's simply too much for the vast majority of production music cues!

I love your enthusiasm about "SERATO SAMPLE". Just for the people who don't know what the term is for what you are describing it's called " FLIPPING-The-SAMPLE". You need to learn or get creative on how to "Flip" the sample to make it your own and not recognizable from its original form. Long gone are the days of taking a sample (verbatim ) and using it straight as it. There is a real hatred for producers who use samples/loops and don't make any attempt to make it their own. "You are being lazy" and are showing you have no real integrity towards being creative.

It's been too long since I graduated in Mar 2023 and haven't invested more time into getting into composing Production Music. I think I'm going to start making cues. I've just started reviewing the FS course material and your YT stuff. Good stuff.

Something to consider is also who you want to submit music to. I think, that music supervisors love to work with Disco. It is build by and for them. So if you have a Disco profile as an artist/music composer music supervisor can also svae your music in their playlists for later consideration. That is not possible with Reelcrafter or private Soundcloud links. So that is handy in the business of TV and Sync. If you aim to write custom original music for someone than I believe you mainly need to find a way to showcase your music but mainly your abilities in a very easy and compelling way (nice Reelcrafter page or embedded playlists from any of these services on your website). Because in this case it is about you and your potential and not about a specific track that you did. At least that's my take on this. (I use embedded Reelcrafter playlists on my website)

pingponging daws, is a GOOD thing (and it should be encouraged) , because then you learn the differences, and it might be the case, that the other daw works better for your needs (how the brain is wired). Without trying, you wouldn't know.

Funny thing - I was listening to this podcast while in line at the post office, mailing off a couple cases of books. I started reading "Save the Cat" a couple of years ago - with the goal of converting my book ("The Glumlot Letters") into a screenplay. But I've been too busy (sounds like an excuse, no?) with music to put that plan in action, but it is still on my 'hope-to-do list.' I also hope to run into you at PMC in a few weeks! ~JazzStan

Not only do you not need an Apple Pencil or iPad, the Wacom with a computer is MILES better. Not even close. I’ve used a Wacom tablet for years and once you use them, it’s a new world. I’ve also tried the Apple Pencil on my new iPad and it’s cool but no anything close to the Wacom Intuous Pro. So customizable and just amazing. You don’t need the image to draw on. I find that distracting. Your mind can use the table and see the display just fine. Much better than any iPad.

Novel writers, nanowrimo is coming up soon. 52 paragraphs, 52 chapters? The word "music" was originally supposed to include the muse of words. 17:00 Musicians could use more focus on studying form, as music studies is entirely focused on the tiny granular, individual notes, sometimes phrases, lucky if any attention is paid to sentences, and very little on larger structure. However this assumes someone is listening to cues sequentially. Which they are not, they are cut up by editors into sectional slices. So ultimately production cues should not need a story structure / linear Act form at all, instead, just concatenate different takes of the [A] separated by silence, allowing editors to cut out whichever [A] variation they prefer.

This is a brill topic, what a super tool! We could learn so much from studying dramaturgy, and get inspiration for a lifetime. There is so much more in the depths of this. You did a great job translating StC to music!

Good question! The top of the headband is comparable, but the gel-like cushion is much, much better and feels more premium.

That's why I try not to complain about a library not getting a signed cue placed. First of all, it's not the library who places it... it's the music manager ultimately. The answer could be, maybe it's not good enough? There are many possibilities. I TRY to keep my mouth shut about it. I'm doing better at that now a days :)

Hey, I've just subbed, checking your old to new content. Starting composer here, just gradued from music university, and I loved your lesson of the I chord at the end of the video (I don't agree to media music not being art of course), but I undestand that it must serve a purpose, we have the power to move people through sound, and we need to know how to balance that, and I see so many composers and musicians with a big ego not thinking about this. I also found the piece quite charming, thanks!
@GoOKuSj33Ай бұрын
Instead we should be looking at something like Light and Sound, libraries that needs more attention. Does anyone here have that? Please make a review!
@GoOKuSj33Ай бұрын
No one. They've turned greedy just like AAA gaming companies. As a starting composer using free libraries, I'm already frustrated by how much I'd need to save to have some playable samples for my work, and how much these companies are tricking us off. Thank you for exposing them, good content, subbed.

"The first Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) was Soundstream, released in 1977 by Digidesign, which is now part of Avid. Soundstream was mainly used to record classical and jazz music. It was made up of a minicomputer, disk drive, video display, and software, and used some of the most modern computer hardware at the time." ... so, when you say Pro Tools wasn't the "first" DAW, that's technically true but it was a descendant of the first.
