Hi Marq, I've driven past Kingston numerous times to Newhaven but never stopped! Didn't realise there was so much to see! Love the birdsong too, thanks for taking us with you

Lovely place, Marq. The gate is a tapsel gate - as far as I’m aware, unique to downland Sussex. There’s about 12 churches that have them - I’ve seen the one at Coombes church near lancing (I’d definitely recommend that one for a visit.)

Detling has some military chalk badges inscribed on the hillside I think. Maybe you pass those next time. The Medway bridge is very high up above the river I recall. I used Maidstone as my end and start points on this leg and being surrounded by motorways getting in and out on foot was challenging to say the least!

Tapsell gate - engineered so coffin bearers could pass either side with coffin above. As I expect you found out the path goes by Ashcombe mill with it's unusual six sweeps instead of four. In an old version of streetview I was on camera exiting Kingston Church after one of many picnic lunches in the churchyard there!

I knew which one it was but I couldn’t remember the name. These vidoes seem to make me regret coming to Canada. Not much history or old buildings where we now live on the Canadian prairies. I often say I’ll have to move back and live in a tent somewhere as houses are too expensive!

Slowly catching up with all the videos, Marq. But felt I had to comment on this one, with the railway connection. As far as I know this was not a Beeching cut, being some years later. The diesel "Thumper" units were used on this line in it's later years. Indeed, I had a local rover ticket so I could travel in such trains in the last week of operation all them years ago. You gave a short glimpse of a Wickham railbus, which had been converted to a departmental unit after withdrawal. Could do with a paint job, but these things take time, especially on a small line like this. The folk here do a good job, all things considered, but I do feel they labour under the weight of constantly renewed intents to reopen the line from Uckfield to Lewes. Good to see the Cock is still thriving, sadly unlike others nearby. Very enjoyable.

Two lovely churches - I was very taken by the church at Southease and its location when I visited last year - I still need to edit my video from there! Apparently Southease was well known for its herring fishing fleet in medieval times!

Does anyone remember back in the early 50s , there was a concreted "narrow" fenced with high railings in which the flow of water was monitored just West of the railway bridge/tunnel ( between Station Ave. & Meadow Walk ). In the height of Summer local kids would form a dam of branches and meadow cuttings thereby creating a sizeable lake in which one was able to paddle or even swim . Within a few days the council would remove the dam where upon re-constrution became necessary . Happy days !

Lovely peaceful video! It does make you wonder who chooses the dedication of a church! So many churches on the St Michael Line all named for St Michael. Was it some form of lottery- we have a church near us,St Swithuns- what made his name suddenly crop up? It’s a fascinating topic. Thanks Marq

Nice to see Southease church open again as it was closed for roof repairs last time I was there. There is a wonderful newly designated bridleway across the marshes back to Lewes from Iford church. A lovely peaceful bimble though it does go past a venue called the Party Barn in it's latter stages!

I love this church and little hamlet of Southease, I even made a lino print from a drawing of the church. If you noticed the long thatched cottage next to the church. That was where the daffodil specialist lived who inspired my collection of daffodils. When i met her late 80s she had some 90 varieties growing in her garden.

Had to laugh to see your arch nemesis- maybe Marie IS funding this annoying nuisance??? It’s a shame you’ve been touring around these historical sites and nobody else around. There is so much of our history in Lewes. People only seem drawn to the subjects taught in school. We didn’t ‘do’ medieval history - not touched on at all so there is a huge amount to learn. Very enjoyable video!
