Hi, great video! I know it's an old one and I don't know if you will read this comment but, how is it holding up so far? I have been looking for a CLS 550. I am a Mercedes guy by the way and my current car is a 2011 E63 AMG, yes an AMG which I really love and I've owned it for 4 years now and it has 156k miles. It's really hard to downgrade after you drive an AMG. But the maintenance and parts are pretty expensive so I started looking for these 550s. But after doing some research I am a little worried about reliability. I heard about oil leaking into wiring harness, coolant gets mixed with oil and cylinders scoring! So what are your thoughts?
@bucksgarage22 күн бұрын
Car has been great so far. Bought it with 90k on it, it has 142k now, no engine issues. I have read the stories about the wiring harness and coolant leaks. I haven't had those issues myself, there are some easy fixes for the harness if that concerns you. My car does need engine mounts, but otherwise it has been really reliable.
@essamallawi960522 күн бұрын
@bucksgarage thank you for the reply. That's good to know. Yes I've seen some with high miles and still running well without any problems. I saw a CLS here in Houston with 211k miles! And still runs and drives great. I am looking for low miles though. But seeing an example like this tells me that these engines are actually reliable

Great video. I missed around the bolt same as you and I'm hoping I just corrected it. On the BMW vs. LTC topic though... I'm 38, started with loving TCs then couldn't get enough of E38 740s, E39 and 34 540s, had a 2011 750i, 2016 Audi S4 6-speed, Lexus LS430 and a Mercedes GLS... I have come full-circle back to a mint, low-mileage 2000 LTC Cartier.... they are hands-down better quality, long-lasting cars than every single car I just mentioned except the LS430, which I'd say is roughly equal reliability-wise but I found it boring/void of any character. The LTC oozes character and has one of the best sounding engines out there. And they’re bulletproof because they're hardly working compared to what Ford's 4.6 modular V8 is capable of. Handling wise, the 98-02 LTC is excellent compared with older models... just last weekend I carved up the Saw Mill Parkway in NY with traffic at 80mph with ease... no bobbing/wandering like would have been the case in 90-97 TCs. BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Lexus fans, check out a 98-02 LTC Cartier when you're ready for a real car ;) You won't regret it.

The problem is the drain outlet gets clogged with debris, at the 4:15 mark you can see a blue mark on the drain opening. If you let this get plugged up the water level overflows into the the air vent and leaks inside. There is just a rubber flap that acts like a one way valve to stop air from entering but will let water run outside. If you keep that drain clear that will solve your problem and you won't need to disassembly anything, simple fix.

The front sits perfectly! So I figured I would raise the sidewall diameter to fill up the gap.. I have a 2017 E300 ..4matic .. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated
@bucksgarage6 ай бұрын
That would be 3% or 0.8" difference in tire diameter. Might be fine with the 4Matic, might not be. Personally, I'd prefer to be closer in diameter to make sure there are no issues with the 4Matic.

I bought a 2012 E550 Coupe in October, 2011, and I still have it. In the summer of 2012 I took it on a road trip from Ontario to Saskatchewan and back (5,406 km or 3,359 mi). I got 7.7 km/100km, which, converted from the incomprehensible to the sensible, is just over 30 miles per U.S. gallon. Power, luxury and economy in one fine package. That said, I've just ordered a Renntech ECU upgrade (ECU:54.207.E550BT) which purportedly yields 540HP and 705 lbs-ft of torque. Can't wait to see how that goes (pun intended).

@@bucksgarage Reputation, primarily. Hartmut Feyhl was 12 years with AMG before starting this company and by all accounts Renntech still has a semi-official working relationship with both AMG and Mercedes-Benz. I read many reviews and testimonials and they are almost universally good. I can understand anyone on a tight budget balking at the premium price, but hey, these are premium vehicles. Personally, while price always matters of course, I'm willing (within reason) to pay extra for proven quality and reliability. Now that I've tried it myself, I can vouch for the results.
