Interesting that you thought he changed tactics at half. He specifically said he changed nothing at half time in his post-match presser. So either he was saying that knowing he’d be playing City twice at ManUtd now, or he simply did a great job of refocusing his squad at half time to play the way they were supposed to be playing tactically in the first half. I will echo other commenters in being thrilled that he said after the game that United cannot play this defensive game and that we must control and dominate games. Love it.

@@cornthdl Hi there. Thanks for making we aware of that. I didn’t see his interview. But he definitely changed tactics. And 100% he will go that way when we play City next month. @Mavors123456Күн бұрын
He didn't exactly say that. In fact, if you watch Trincão's final interview, he says exactly what was indicated in this video, that at half-time they dropped Pedro Gonçalves in order to have one more man in midfield, so that they could create the diamond that tied City up. What Ruben said was that the first two goals of the second half were probably not due to that. Because the first one came from the kick-off, and the second one came a minute later, when Graviol lost the ball and then scored a penalty. Regardless of that, the tactics were changed in the second half and had an effect, because they created a web that City couldn't escape. While in the first half they were able to play almost freely, looking for interior lines.

united did not maintain a double pivot throughout this game. arguably one of casemiro/ugarte was sitting right in front of the defence, while the other was moved up a bit. looked a 3-1 at the back a lot of the times. you literally see it at 1:00. guardiola uses the 3-1 all the time. you just need the technical skill and coordination to pull it off in possession like city do. 1:02 as for the "main criticism", if things are not going well, people will always blame the formation, esp. genius tacticians on YT.

RVN used a lot of width in this game, which suited the united players, and the downside is they had to run their socks off, esp zirkzee, garnacho, ugarte and fernandes, and got 5 goals from it. so something obviously worked, but the system may not be sustainable without high player rotation.

My view, more or less. We were a bit more intense with the press, the back line joined it on a couple of occasions, we were a bit more engaged in buildup as both elements of the double pivot would actively move laterally to where the ball is and that gave us a fair few progressions through both Ugarte and Casemiro; we were also a bit more direct, but that was partly Leicester inviting us to do it. Ultimately those goals were statistics catching up to us after several matches - Palace and West Ham prominent - where we were denied or we missed an absurd amount of chances. - a worldie that’s a 1 in 50 to go in at best - a cute direct play that could’ve been a toenail offside with VAR for all we know - a free kick that bounced off some poor bloke’s head - a decent header that bounced off both posts and ended up back in Casemiro, but props to him for being active - a horrible passing mistake in a dangerous area. We still let two in and another hit the crossbar. It’s a mountain to climb. But at least most of the lads looked engaged, even the ones who were bad (Zirkzee mostly), they were frustrated, but they cared. Rashford looked completely disinterested, like he was waiting for the shift to end. I want to see the back of him.

Excellent video as always. I think it was a little impulsive to sack Ten Hag right after West Ham. I would have still stuck with him a bit more and focus on winning the Europa league. once that would be impossible, time for a change and a new project. Even Amorim said today that he would have preferred to take over next summer. But what’s done is done, I think Ten Hag will move on and get another top job in Europe and we will also move on and hopefully improve. I am very worried about the 3-5-2, because I don’t think our squad is suitable for such a drastic change. We barely have enough full backs to even play them on their wrong side (like Dalot on the L), I struggle to see how the new manager can implement a new system where the WB are key. I don’t think the Leicester game means much, because they were so poor. Similar to the 7-0 Barnsley game, no one is really talking about that anymore. Ruud will get a chance to show his managerial ability on Sunday against Chelsea. Carrick managed a 1-1 against them away, can Ruud do better?

this is what the problem with man utd ETH has actually did well defensively as he only allowed 11 goals which is the same as aston vila and chelsea but since we could not convert our chances into goals he is the victim if we have converted our chances in this match and the crystal palace match we would been right now with 15 points and would have been fighting for top 4.Tbh i have seen this cycle where the players play well under a interim or new manager for few matched to gain fans trust to actually believe that the coach was the problem but in the end it is not.One last request can we expect a video of how ruben amorim 3-4-2-1 formation would work in our squad? is it possible from your POV or it is gonna take a long time to adapt 3 at the back formation?

I can see your points in the freeze frame analysis, but when watching the game live (and I’m no expert), Brentford never really looked that dangerous. We pretty much did the job, and could have won more categorically. It WAS an injustice on the corner, we suddenly had to defend with 10 men, without an official red card and the chance for the team to reorganize. It was a 7/10 performance for me in a game we should have won. If we keep doing that we’ll be ok. We’re only 3 points from Chelsea, who apparently are slaying now with Sanchinho and Palmaradona.

I think you’re being a bit too harsh, but your fundamental point is true. Tactically we weren’t much better off, but there were small yet significant improvements in the patterns: it was simplified. It allowed the players to do their jobs more easily. The overall setup was simpler and I don’t think we always stuck to the 3-1-6 in possession, it was often a 3-2-5; plus whenever the box was constructed it was farther upfield using Rashford to invert. The press was pretty bad, no going around that. Onana enabled the back line in buildup quite a bit, it’s the first time I’ve seen him truly become part of the back 4, allowing Dalot to keep width higher up the pitch, which in turn allowed Rashford to invert. He’s been pretty solid individually and was utilised well in this particular game. Winning the individual duels was a good thing, people stepped up. I’m not getting carried away, but I don’t have a problem if our players saved the team by pulling a good shift. Tactics only get you so far.

United off the ball was not very good. they had some successful phases of pressing the opposition and winning the ball high up the pitch on a good number of occasions but it was clear to see that the press was beaten on a number of occasions also. Playing out from the back was bit better especially in the second half. ETH played Onana in a back 4 frequently Martinez pushed high up and was replaced by Evans as a partial left back then Onana and Deligt possed as the center backs then Dalot maintained the right back position in the first phase this system which made distribution more easy this pattern was mirrored atimes with Evans and Onana as the center backs with martinez and deligt as LB and RB respectively. He later switched to 3 at the back as play progressed. Bruno was dropping deep to help Ericson and Casemiro to play out through Dalot and Martinez from the flanks and play progressed leading to one on one situations especially for Garnacho in some cases Rashford inverted and Dalot overlaped. To an extent Rashford tried defensively in this game. Bruno had an assist but gave the ball away repeatedly in compromising situations which could have led to us conceding goals. If we can build on this, but it is only a small team and they didnt press us as other teams do. The issue is always consistency, the next game can pose more questions that answers.
