Thanks for the question! You want to display your Datum Axis from the In-Graphics toolbar. Also, make sure Datum Axis are not on a layer that’s hidden.

Generally yes, these tools can be found in 3DEXPEREINCE as well. Though it can be problematic to give a blanket statement that covers both CAD program versions. I did look up the features talked about in this video though, and they both exist in 3DEXPERIENCE R2024x. Hope that helps!

If I add a part in assembly after scene creation, then it doesn't reflect inside scene, doesn't reflect even in Catia tree inside scene. Is there any way to show newly added part inside scene?

It is not mentioned in this video, but there is a big difference between Full and Partial Overload. If you add a new part or sub-assembly after creating the scenes, the Full Overload scenes will NOT show the new components added, but the Partial Overload ones will! So I typically start with a Full and a Partial "Default" scene and rarely use Full Overload scenes.

Hi- the solid slicing method is covered in our standard Catia Composites Design class, but our instructor wanted to pass along that it’s just a couple of hours of content, and it's very basic. (In case you were looking for something more detailed).

I love your enthusiasm and I think that 3Dexp can be a great piece of CAD software in the future, but from what I've gathered there is still a long bumpy road ahead for DSS developers if they want to deliver really modern user experience. What's most baffling to me is that 3Dexp's UI is improved only on the visual level, but it's very lacking if you are practiced expert user in v5. But maybe that's by design and DSS is trying to appeal to newer users and broaden their user base? I can give few examples: 1. Ribbon/icons' categorisation is being sold as quality of life improvement, but the drawback is that it forces users to perform more clicks before they find what they need. In v5 you could configure the toolbars in such manner, that every needed icon was available within single click. And Action Pad doesn't solve it unless you own a huge ultrawide monitor. 2. Specification tree is barely readable in comparison with v5 due to its monochromatic color scheme. Say good bye to differentiating between Bodies and Geometrical Sets at a first glance. 3. Some windows are so big without any reason. Object Properties pane for example takes so much space on the screen. In v5 it is one single line of neatly packed icons and combo boxes. 4. Contextual features (small icons showing up near something selected) have been a nice surprise but still big missed opportunity. They run some limited versions of standard functions and cannot be customized, which has been possible in NX or Inventor since probably a decade already. 5. Not being able to run multiple instances of the software is huge loss. Running two Catias on dual screen setup - one for working model and second one for reference has been standard practice for me. Not possible in 3Dexp. 6. Not being able to create multiple toolbars. 7. You have to hover the mouse over the Spec Tree if you want to scroll it. In v5 you could scroll it from anywhere within the Catia window. So as for today, I feel like we are getting some really nice improvements such as better graphics, Commands and Preferences searching ability, Semantic Painter, Resilient Modelling, new Clipboard capabilities, etc., but their impact is being squashed by what we lost in comparison with v5. In software development taking away functionality in newer software iterations without a good reason is very controversial.

It would be great if the size of the plus sign on each branch of the tree could be increased. It's so small and I miss it a lot.

I have the same problem that this video shows. Though I have inserted the positions that I want in the order I want, my animations and final video do not have smooth motion. To fix this, I just brute force made 15 times the number of insertions that I need, each a small step that is a part of a single motion. I bet someone reads this and tells me there is a simple solution (0.1x somewhere) to make a smooth video. I just didn't see it. Also, I have had this enhancement request for 25 years: I would like to edit each insert graphically. I was hoping that 3dExperience would improve kinematic simulation to include a graph (time on x-axis) for the motion of inserted positions. I want to stretch, shrink, or overlap the motions by manipulating the graph. Working Model by Knowledge Revolution was doing this in 1997.

This is great but the caveat is that CATIA V5 recognizes the data to be in metric unites (so, if your model is set to inches, you have to multiply your numbers by 25.4 to get English units before running). Is there a setting that one can select to correct that?

Among all the functions in Catia ,this is one of the worst. You change a reference, do your exploded view again boy... You want to explode the 3d with the proper, the parts go everywere over the screen...You cannot define an axis for the exploded view. It's a mess.

While you can create sections and groups as shown in the last 60 seconds of this demo that work similarly to a fly-out, I haven't been able to find a way to create my own fly-outs. I even tried copying an existing fly-out and editing it to my own commands, but that didn't work. Sorry!

Is it possible to remove a part from the exploded view in the drawing? e.g. the Ball Lever A. I haven't yet figured out a way..

Yes, it is possible if I understand your question correctly. I will try to talk you through the steps, but I recommend you look up the ability to "Overload Properties" as they work basically the same in Catia V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE so any information on either will help. 1. After creating the drawing view that has all the exploded parts plus the one you don't want shown, right-click on the view in the tree and select *object>Overload Properties. * represents the view's name. 2. Select the part on the drawing display that you want to change in this case the handle. Its name will appear in the list of Newly Selected Elements in the Overload Properties window. 3. Select the icon to the right of the listed Part that represents "Click to activate the Unuse Property" it is the 4th one for me, and the names will appear when you hover your cursor over them. That will remove the part from the drawing view, but it will still exist in the Assembly and in the slides that originally had them. Hope this helps. Mark

Thank you for the trouble shooting tutorial. I am confident there are many improvements over the old "DMU Kinematics" workbench in Catia v5. However, this is at the cost of a steep learning curve for the new offering. Rand 3D has developed tutorials for some very basic (simpler) mechanisms and that is great. Need some more please.

Hello Mark, great content and thank you. I am trying to simulate a magnetic mover (xbot) over an induction table (tech used for moving the assembly parts in production) - the "planar motor inc" product. Using excitation recorder seems like best way to create movements scenario for simulation. My problem is that i need this "xbot" to move to planned location and then stop there for some time (so other robot can make operation on part that xbot carries). I cant figure out how to make a planned travel time and define waiting times for each station, so my simulation can show those movements and stops in real time, not so fast as I can see your simulation also acts. In other words, how to slow it down to predefined moving time? Greetings, Lovro

Hi! We really have no way of knowing. Some commands/icons may stay the same for years, while others could change next release. Most don't change that often, but it does happen. Our instructors find out about them when the new release is published.
