My GoPro has an option to record GPS data in sync with the video, though it only works outdoors. Then a program called RaceRender translates that GPS data into the speedometer, track map, and laptimes (and more)

I was there on Sept 7, and Yeah for sure that first 180 turn after the start/finish line was the hardest to master. I thought i was BOOKING in it when i got 23.01 as my fastest lap, just to find out that most of the decent racers hit 21-22s. lol i def need to go there more often.

That's pretty good, especially if that was your first time there! One thing is that the monthly league events are run at a faster setting than regular public sessions, so you're closer than you think 😉

Whoever #6 was I think I saw was being an idiot. He was trying to kill me and the pack I was in the entire race and we were catching up to the front pack. Sadly the officials saw it as nothing but the entire pack bumping around while he was doing all the bumping. Completely ruined my race and all the others in the pack I was in.

From 18:11 to 18:42 we all just turned into bumper karts 😭
@AlexDevineKartRacingАй бұрын
Yeah there's a couple of karts that need a double-tap of the pedal for the brakes to kick in. Too bad it's happening to these new karts again... It used to be a reminder in the driver's meetings to check your brakes when exiting and entering the pit lane. It's the "Easy E" remember cause that's who had their brakes completely cut out - he sped through the pits at 30mph!
@DJYTLOLАй бұрын
44:32 Yeah my kart liked turning left more than right, lost so much time through T1-T5 and the penultimate corner as a result. It had good top speed to make for it which created an odd equal dynamic between Andrew & I. He’d pull away in the corners only for me to catch him on the straights. Worked with him until the final few laps 🔥

Do you get points for getting second? Also I’m trying to start league racing at k1 speed and was wondering if it would be pretty hard to stay with the other racers if I’m pretty new to the karting thing, I know some stuff about racing in my head but not sure if that translates to actual track expierence
@AlexDevineKartRacing2 ай бұрын
Everyone gets points based on how many people participate, and the standings for the Challenge GP at each location are on the K1 website under the 'Leagues' section. I'd recommend getting a few races in before jumping into a league night, just to get a feel for racing IRL and how the karts feel while braking/turning/accelerating etc. Knowing the racing line is only useful if you're also able to adjust your driving to hit said line.
@AndrewVelleuerMt_Andew2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips! I have raced at the k1 track a few times Im just trying to figure out all the small things I could do to get a faster lap time love watching your videos! You always motivate me haha
@AlexDevineKartRacingАй бұрын
One more thing: the karts are turned up a notch for league night compared to the setting they run for the public.
@AndrewVelleuerMt_AndewАй бұрын
Oh, thanks for the warning, does that technically mean if I get like a low 20 sec lap time on the slow kart it could possibly be a 19 sec lap time in the faster karts?
@AlexDevineKartRacingАй бұрын
With the newer model karts at Mokena, there's a display that shows which speed it's in. You can barely see it in the visor cam view, but it says "Model 4". I know that Mode 3 is slower, but I can't remember by how much.. We've only run the league on the LeMans track, and my best time this year is a 21.089. In past years I've got a 20.966 at LeMans and a 19.810 at Monaco.

Helmet camera looks great. How did you get one in there? In F1 they have a tiny camera in the cushion of the helmet. Great consistent start to the fall series you had, too!
@AlexDevineKartRacing2 ай бұрын
It's an Insta360 Go 3s model camera - the lens itself has magnets that snap into a GoPro sized base. So I added a metal plate inside my helmet, behind the visor, against the hard shell, and the lens magnets keep it in place during the race.

Does body weight affect how fast you can go in these karts? Stuck in the mid 21s laps

Absolutely with you on that, I kept messing up turn 4 down the hill once Jack and Alex paired up and passed us.
@AlexKoleczek2 ай бұрын
Some of that has to be blamed on me. I didn’t realize how long I should have been working with you and how long you were trying. I also didn’t realize how aggressive I was being in trying to get past you when I should have stuck behind I’m still not used to racing in longer and larger racing with packs (as you can tell probably lol) the race could have gone differently if I would have stuck behind and just following you, then we could have attempted to pull away like I did later on. Sorry, not trying to be an idiot like I sometimes am lol.

If you mean 29:45, then if anything I was too cautious and bunched us up. Shit happens, no hard feelings at all. @AlexDevineKartRacing3 ай бұрын
It feels like these newer model karts have better acceleration, so turn 1 here has an actual braking zone, and the esses at Mokena are comparable to Schumacher at Buffalo Grove. If Buffalo Grove upgraded their karts, then maybe Schumacher at speed 4 would need a hint of braking too....
@WindyCityIndy273 ай бұрын
@@AlexDevineKartRacing It's probably more of a lack of maintenance at BG, but I have found myself and some of the others using the brake a bit more often in Schumacher in order to get that forward weight shift. I have my GoPro 8 setup to gather GPS data as it is recording. Then in editing, I use RaceRender3 to pull that GPS data from the files recorded by the GoPro, and I have a template in RaceRender that overlays that data as laptimes, speedometer, lateral Gs, and the track map.
