I forgot how much I miss good old documentaries like this. Nowadays it`s a rarity. The whole documentary genre is polluted by sensational netflix stuff, docudramas, heavily staged nonsense, artsy films that nobody really watches on film festivals anymore. Thanks!

36:50 Why do they say Rufus was 11? Rufus was born in 1973, the movie was filmed in 1987, so he was actually 14.

The original SMILEY was of course the now late COLIN PETERSEN. His film was such a hit that when they wanted to make the sequel, SMILEY GETS A GUN, they wanted Colin to reprise his role. But at that time he was making films in England. So the now late KEITH CALVERT was chosen instead. Although both films were shot in CinemaScope, they are only available on DVD in pan and scan format, which crops off half of the original image.

Not sure if Michael you will see this but this film had a positive impact on my life. I heard about the film because my father who is still friends with Lois told us about it. I reside in Toronto. I bought the out of print DVD off Ebay and still own it. I also feel the Magic Man bike scene in Peanut Butter Solution is magical.

🤣... I bet he was worse than her manners will allow her to say. He was probably always drunk and really rank (there was no indoor plumbing or deodorant back then), he wouldn't have slept - and he only ever sold one painting. Everyone knows he was in spiritual and emotional turmoil - I've always related to him as an artist (and addict/alcoholic). His humanity and passion and the magnificence he created is astounding to me. But I bet he was a stinker when he'd come in your store - and maybe 2 cents short to go with his temper. My brother in law always said Vincent needed glasses really bad, that what Van Gogh painted is what he saw without his glasses on in real time. Interesting. Thank you for this video, it's like a walk in the park, a breath of fresh air.

Facts about Vincent and Me: Jeanne Calment is the one who played herself, oldest in the world validated. Jeanne also met Van Gogh when she was 13 or 12. And said that he was smelly like alcohol.

Marlowe's death was May 30th 1593. According to The Shakespeare Birthday Trust, Venus and Adonis was "entered into the Stationers Register (the English government pre-publication registry) in April, 1593." Which seems to sit at odds with what is claimed in this video. This, of course, might be wrong. But I can't find a different date. But as I dug just a little deeper I found it was at that point unnamed. Make of that what you will.

Loved it! Not sure how many times I saw it when it released, I was just 8 or 9 years old, but many elements from it have stuck with me. I never saw it again until just this week (and I didn’t even know there was a sequel). I realized this is the movie where I first heard the saying: “Ask me no questions, I‘ll tell you no lies!” And then Rufus Wainwright’s song “I’m a Runnin’” has been stuck in my head all these years but I had forgotten it was from the movie. Then there was that kazoo music from the one-man-band… stuck in my head all this time lol.

Hello Michael and thank you so much for uploading your film. Many years ago my father was keen on making a viola and approached Harry to get some advice on where to start. HArry generously gifted dad a set of metal templates for a Viola which are used to mark shapes and sizes on the timber and veneers. My father died without finishing the Viola and I found these templates hanging on a nail in his workshop. I took the templates back to Harry in Concord wishing to return them to their creator; Harry said "... you keep the templates, they will help to remind you of your father..." That was 2002. Next week I am going to pass the templates on to luthier Bryan Dillon at Wollombi in the Hunter Valley, he already knows of Harry's work...and so it continues.

Should’ve asked her why the residents of Arles have the audacity to make money and use Vincent’s name for tourism after they all treated him so horribly and hated him while he lived there. The people of Arles are a disgrace and should be shamed of themselves!
