Hi Dave. Tried to get into DT when "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" came out cause I enjoyed their covers of Queen, Zebra, KC, Rainbow and The Dixie Dregs (before that their music meant nothing to me). Went to a gig and yes, they were really good, machine-like performers. Then Portnoy left and lost interest. But 15 yrs. had passed and it sounds like the same formula. Maybe I'll give the album a try. Cheers.

This morning the cat sat looking at me for food. I sang to her 'in my own time, I'll be with you' and that prompted a reminiscing session of Chappo's voice/music and my early teens. Love guitar parts too! Good feelings all round, even for the cat! 😆 All the best. Jane

Give the man a bass guitar and you've got Chuck Panozzo. Love this song, its my favorite Tommy Shaw Styx led song. On one of their many Greatest Hits albums this song is almost two minutes longer. They really extend the ending, the way Tommy really wanted it. A&M cut it. If you have not heard Tommy's last solo album Seven Deadly Zens its worth a good listen. It's fantastic as are Styx last two albums The Mission & Crash Of The Crown.

Details missing - (1) Gabriel told an introductory story at the Ferme gig indicating that the instrumental climax represents the song's protagonist drunk-driving, and being pursued by the police, then crashing his car and dying in the wreckage. (2) There are three studio recordings, and he doesn't say "you can fuck tomorrow!" on any of them. Then again there's no improvised flute solo in this shortened take. (3) It entered the live repertoire during the long gap between FGTR and the release of Trespass (so definitely a Phillips co-write), and stayed in the repertoire through 1971. (And I suspect that - like Going Out To Get You - it made one or two appearances the year after that, but alas I'm separated from my copy of Play Me My Song, so...can anyone confirm?)

I came across Nektar on the OGWT when a part of "Remember the Future" was featured. They were due to support Zappa at Wembley in September 1973 and perhaps that was why. As the premier Prog band and album, King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King should be #1, not #10. When they get to Close To The Edge, they mention Rick Wakeman, but they show Tom Brislin, in the excellent Symphonic Yes film. Wakeman had prior commitments. As far as the rest goes, let me guess... You love Genesis and Rush, right?

Started off well with a nice mix, but ended awfully. Three Genesis, two Rush and vanderGraef whatever but no ELP is a joke. Could pick from several, but probably Brain Salad Surgery. Greater musicianship than any of these bands, with possible exception of Yes, and as much musicality as any of them. Rush were just a wannabe Yes with godawful lyrics and an excruciating singer, who some people decided they had to like, god knows why. Obviously Dark Side is the prototypical Floyd Album, not Wish you were here, but have them both before any Rush rubbish. Tangerine Dream, Soft Machine, Zappa among others worthy of consideration, though you’d probably get your 10 best albums from the groups mentioned here minus Rush. Both Keith Emerson’s The Nice and Floyd were doing prog rock before Court of the Crimson King came out.
