I work at an antique store, a grandma came up and purchased the Alvin and the chipmunk game for her grandkids bc she still uses the wii. Hope they enjoyed it.

I was born in 1997 As a toddler I played spyro and crash and super mario bros 3 As I got to kid age I was gamecube and game boy advance ALL THE WAY my friends got wii and ps2s and all kinds of stuff But the gamecube era is the greatest of gaming to me. They were fun and creative, and I threw HOURS AND DAYS into those games. Not so much these days… I think gaming changed the MOST when live service / online gaming started. It gave companies excuses to release unfinished games. When you bought a game back in the day, you got the whole thing. You can finish it, unlock everything, and its a set price you pay once. Now its so complicated and expensive to enjoy even a basic game AND you need internet access to get updates and other content/fixes.

Born in 92. Gaming really changed for me when it turned into only a business with no passion. COD in particular has just turned into a "how can we hook this person and manipulate them into buying a new bundle" instead of making an actual enjoyable game. Gaming has no soul with big developers and I've moved more to indie games.

Born in 1988, grew up with NES and Sega, always one or two generations behind in gaming. In my humble opinion, gaming peaked at the PS2. The graphics were a huge step up from the PS1 and N64, the controllers were perfected, and online gaming wasn't as huge. Likewise, the cutscenes were short and to the point, your disk played the game without any downloading, and your imagination was allowed to run wild in what felt like an open world, even when it wasn't. I just recently got a PS4 and I am so disillusioned by the fact you have to download 8 gb just to play, the cutscenes are soooo long you feel like you're playing a movie, and so many people are caught up in online gaming you feel like you either have to be the best or you just suck. I honestly think developers are so proud of their graphics they spend more time showing them off than developing a storyline that you can play through. I just started playing Arkham Knight and had to wait 30 minutes to download data, then 30 minutes into playing the game there's more talking and cutscenes than actual playing. I miss throwing in Call of Duty Finest Hour and playing it through for the fiftieth time.

14 YO, I too grew up relatively poor, albeit with gen 7 consoles (wii and 360), I think gaming changed the most in ~2018 with more live service multiplayer games coming out.

Or you can just go off mainstream. I've been gaming since 1996 and have never been a happier gamer. Good and great indie games everywhere, more than I have time and money for.

35. NES, SNES and Genesis until i got a PS2 in 2004. We were broke, so PS2 was when i could finally own more than a small number of games. So my nostalgia tends to go there.

Remember when we all snuck and raided into our uncle's room for Hustler, Playboy and Classic Adult VHS films? To me that was 100x more fun than all of the sea of Internet content we have right now. It's the same I guess for gaming

I grew up with them all, and it was only the last decade where there was a noticeable drop in fun. funnily enough if I go back its still fun, I stopped looking at anything made the last decade around 9 years ago.

I’m 37 and I was done with games by the time I was 14. I just wanted to be outside on the streets with my boys instead, smoking weed, bussing raps and getting up to mischief. Then when I was 18, I was in the bars and clubs. Then by the time I was 32, I was bored of all that too. The one hobby that has been consistent throughout all of this until now is making music. Anyone else have a similar experience?
