Both David and Jesse Taylor is/were wonderful players. No knock on Grissom, I just prefer Jesse's style. Some like peaty Scotch Whisky, someone else prefers Wild Turkey Reserve Bourbon...it ALL good!

I love the Mule to this day, but the early days of this kick ass power trio was freaking amazing! Warren's voice was so strong and his guitar, well, blow you away power! Woody ripping that bass on the low end and Matt Abts driving attacking those drums, it was a high energy, exhausting show from beginning to end! My favorite show was at the Orpheum Theater in Boston just a couple of weeks after 9/11. That show brought tears to many eyes. Total emotional roller coaster, if you can find a recording of that show, there was a bootleg, buy it, copy it, it was mule kicking your ass!

This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing! For a guitar nut like me, this format is fantastic and I say that with no disrespect to the late, great Pete Zorn. It's a pretty unusual selection of songs too, most of these have cycled out of RT's live repertoire or only appear sporadically. This is a wonderful document.

Thank you. We got to hang with him afterward, and I told him I've always enjoyed his playing and that no one in the world can play the way that he can. "And aren't we ALL lucky for that!", was his response. Delightful man, a delightful band.

@@jimobrien9231 I've only met him two or three times when he's been signing CDs at Cropredy but he's an inspirational artist. You could understand if he was a little self-satisfied being that good at the guitar and the songwriting but he's amazingly tough on himself. Perhaps that's why he's kept the quality sky-high for so many years. I don't think there's any era of his career that I don't find fascinating.

I love this song but Buffet’s voice is just not right for it. His voice works great for other stuff but it just doesn’t sound good for this tune. Just my opinion folks. I’m sure others think it’s just fine.

Mule died with Woody. Fuck smack!! It sucks teaching my grandson bass, playing him all Woodys stuff and talking about him , but not being able to go see him!! Im a old bass fucker and love most of the guys that influenced Woody, but first time I saw him jam live I just....no words...No peace can rest , Allen Woody transcends death and was the best bass player in the best power trio that ever played🔥

I saw this very same band in Cork, Ireland in 1988 and beyond, possibly two or three times around that period. Ever since, David Grissom has been one of my very favourite guitar players. His stage sound would make you think that there were two lead guitarists playing, yes he is that good! I have all of Joe's albums with this band on vinyl and CDs ... and more besides. You'll always have a great night when Joe Ely and the guys play in your town/city!!! Great artist accompanied by great musicians ... Texas' finest. Best wishes from Cork, Ireland.

VASSAR COULD PLAY ANY WAY , ANY STYLE , HE CHOSE TO . BUT HE LIKED TO GET " LOST " FOR THE ENTIRE MIDDLE OF HIS BREAKS , AND ONLY GET BACK TO THE ACTUAL MELODY AT THE VERY END .THAT IS NOT HOW HE PLAYED IT AS A BlUEGRASS BOY . MONROE WOULD NEVER STAND FOR IT , AND NEITHER DOES DEL IN HIS BAND . IT IS TOO DISRUPTIVE TO A TUNE
