Thank you. This has held up nicely over the years. I was lucky to be able to preserve it. I've recorded many shows but this was my first. I later had to manually dub the audio on the fly from a reel to reel master since this was before digital. I'm glad it turned out as well as it did.

Gawd, I saw Vassar at least a half dozen times in the mid to late 70s, but other than youtube clips hadn't seen him since. This is soooo good...

I'm so glad to have captured it. It was the final time I got to see him. 😊 I'm pleased that there are others like yourself who can appreciate the historical value of this show with it's direct lineage to Bill Monroe.

@@jimobrien9231may I add my small story about Vassar Clements?...in the late 80's, he came to Nashua, NH, touring with a regional called "NorthernLights...during intermission, I bought his Homespun tape from him in the lobby...we chatted for a bit while transacting the purchase...He was a true Southern gentleman...I watched the tape when I got home and, needless to say, realized I will never hit that stratosphere of talent...the man is AWESOME!!!

Vassar Clements is my favorite of all the fiddlers/violinists I've seen, and I've seen many. He played with such verve! The last time I saw him was on 2/7/04 in Chapel Hill. To the best of my memory, his band played the entire Old & In The Way album, or at least most of it. Wonderful to see him here.

Totally agree. He was a gem and king of the fiddle. But, that said, Benny Martin was really good!

VASSAR COULD PLAY ANY WAY , ANY STYLE , HE CHOSE TO . BUT HE LIKED TO GET " LOST " FOR THE ENTIRE MIDDLE OF HIS BREAKS , AND ONLY GET BACK TO THE ACTUAL MELODY AT THE VERY END .THAT IS NOT HOW HE PLAYED IT AS A BlUEGRASS BOY . MONROE WOULD NEVER STAND FOR IT , AND NEITHER DOES DEL IN HIS BAND . IT IS TOO DISRUPTIVE TO A TUNE
