No matter what they say a muslim should always strive to learn fusha first to understand the Quran and Ahadith first.

My dad went nuts when a black cat crossed his path blessing himself then spitting in both directions. Then blessing himself again mumbling Something like God protect me. 😂😂 So I bless myself everytime the spitting seems excessive. But yes we had all of those.

......wow!....these are all 'superstitions' in my family.... I had not realized just how "culturally Lebanese" we are, being ethnically mostly Native American/Irish, as well as a very diverse mix of early American immigrants (minimum 9 generations) I cannot wait to hear more! Thank you for sharing !! <3

Yes my mom descended from the early American European settlers from the early 1500 to the 1700s. It was my mom who was always warning us about the umbrella, the salt, and hers was "if your nose itches someone's coming", don't rock an empty rocking chair the next person that sits in it will die, oh and if a bird gets in the house there will be a death in the family. It was a rare occurrence with the bird but spot on that one. My dad knocked on wood adhered to the do's and don't s but huge on the black cat.

Thank you, it's very interesting to be reminded because my old-school English/Aussie parents followed some of these. They were superstitious from folk beliefs. Umbrella and salt is the same. The fingernails I think is from Italy, they burn them. Evil eye is also known in India and, yes, the round blue and white charm is famous!

Ok so Lebanese American lady here, between you and I. Yes i like a guy to look nice, that’s important, but I’m far more interested in how you act, God is important to me so He should be important to you too. Acts of service are also my thing. That’s my love language, a beard doesn’t hurt either lol. Wear a watch if you like 😂 but it’s all in acts of service to God and others for me.

The replies in the comments section are so contradictory "Learn fusha because it'll be understood by everyone!" "No one speaks in fusha, they speak ammiyah, if you speak in fusha, people will laugh at you because you sound like the quran" "No, fusha is used for news, education and politics! It's how you're able to communicate" So what I've gathered from this is that people in the "Arabic" speaking world don't understand fusha, but their local dialect, and it's only the privileged few who are well educated can converse/read/write in fusha and understand the news, high education, literature etc. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Lebanese Arabic could be found and used in formal settings as well; talking to a bank employee, addressing a senior, listening to an old song, watching a play etc.

I'm still on my journey to learning arabic at all but it's nice to hear the differences between these two. For a european person with little cultural exposure the sheer amount of dialects can be intimidating. :D

I dont know if the music was stolen but the point of a national anthem is always the lyrics. There is the true power of the song . Even if the music plays alone, the mind always brings the lyrics on.
