I was on board from the release of that first picture! He immediately reminded me of classic Doctor Who with a single image. I remember how angry people were when Matt Smith took over and how quickly it turned around. I think that helped me accept Capaldi right away. Capaldi is my Doctor. Tom Baker was my Doctor as a kid. Capaldi is my Doctor from the modern era. So good!

Capaldi is my favorite Doctor, I love Matt Smith and David Tennant, but I think what drew me to Capaldi's Doctor was his grumpiness and sarcasm, I loved that you could viscerally FEEL the Doctor's pain through Capaldi's acting. He was done with death, he hated seeing people die, and he made me LOVE Clara. He was the first Doctor my son and I got to watch as new episodes aired, we had watched the 10th and 11th on DVD and BBC America, but the 12th was the first Doctor we got to watch as new episodes. So that helps draw me into his story as well.

Pater Capaldi has been one of my favorite Doctors, pretty much even from the start. The two companions Clara and was it Billy? they both kinda hit certain points that i disliked however. What I wanted more of though was Missy and the Doctor. Specifically her trying to be "good" but doing it in a bad way.

The first season was a bit hit or miss with stories but imho season 9 cleaned up quite a bit, as did series 10 and once I got to those, seeing his cold outer shell start to break, I loved him. My guess is that first season being spotty took away front the good episodes and tainted his original run. I was skeptical of him too, until I watched flatline and I fell in love. That speech, him trying to reason, begging and pleading for anything else, some form of peace or negotiation, before he begrudgingly did what he had to do, to me that is everything the doctor stood for, that is when she showed his true colors to me. And I loved him and capaldi's acting as him after that. And season 9 further cracked at the exterior.

Also, I absolutely loved him playing guitar. In my opinion, it was a great way for the actor to express and impression his own interests into the show and make the role his own. It also gave his doctor a bit more personality. Despite looking like someone who would look at rock and roll and say this is just noise for the sake of making noise. He was into it.

I also came to the same conclusion that the Doctor takes care of them in his spare time after he realised he would have to in Father's Day. Though I think the idea of them being just predators who only show up to paradoxes they happen to be aware of is a much neater solution

This is just my observation, but Adric's character is deeper than his often-criticized surface behavior. Behind his seemingly arrogant demeanor was someone seeking validation from the doctor and crew. After losing his brother and never quite fitting in with the TARDIS team, he constantly tried to prove his worth - sometimes even by opposing them. His final sacrifice demonstrated his ultimate desire to be a hero like the doctor.

Agreed, this song carries emotion on within, which is the most humane thing you can get from that show apart the Doctor's hopeless scenes.

I'd argue the only "hardcore viewers" that hated him were mostly New Who-only fans who only knew the Doctor (and only wanted him to be) this hyperactive, super-smiley, super-friendly, cuddle-bug type of character*. Classic Who, having more Doctors at the time, had a wider range of personalities and types for the character. Capaldi was very much in line with Doctor Who, not just by doing a hard 180 from the previous Doctor, but also his coldness and tetchy personality. Some of the people who only watched Tennant and Smith didn't realize this could happen. From what I've seen, most who loved the Classics loved Capaldi almost instantly. *Which is why I disagree when you say Tennant and Smith are nothing alike. If anything, Day of the Doctor shows off how they're really quite similar. And Smith could get really dark!

Let's not forget that it took a DECADE for Georgia Moffet to reprise her role as Jenny for Big Finish. It's entirely possible that the third part of this hypothetical trilogy is on the schedule, just behind a LOT of other ideas that were in the works earlier, it's also entirely possible given the lukewarm reception to the Harmony Shoal, that they've just been nixed, and we'll never hear from them again.

Holy crap I was literally thinking about this like a day ago. So during the comic where he allied with the Cybermen, after they betrayed him he finally had some humility and realized he was wrong and helped the doctor fix everything. That timeline was erased but I think he still remembers it and that would have changed them somewhat. As they weren't on planet at the time I think they survived, perhaps exploring the universe in retrospection of themselves. My hope is that they return someday, wanting to rebuild the time lords, but into something better, a changed being who actually wants to build a world worthy of the doctor calling home.

One thing I think is totally overlooked about dr who is the fact they don't even need to try to recast characters as similar looking people...need a bad guy timelord then get who evers available and all the fans just accept it 😂 no other show could do that
@Madman13K28 күн бұрын
The thing that really undermined Ashad wasn't so much the Master so much as the fact that his grand plan was stripping out the organic and turning the cybermen into robots; the fact that the Master basically called him out on it in universe really rams home how stupid and pointless that was, which also bizarrely indicates the writers were aware of this but didn't think to do something more interesting. The idea of a zealot who clearly retains humanity and emotions but is not only willing but completely determined to embrace the upgrading is a very good fresh take on the cybermen, that is only really held back by the fact that such a person would inevitably upgrade out of existence as soon as it were possible; Infuriatingly the writers somehow managed to create the very narrow range of circumstances were a character like Ashad could exist, and then closed that window without taking advantage of it.

I bet rassilon, having been head of gallifrey for that long will play a part in seeing it restored honestly.
@dogolv22 күн бұрын
Here’s hoping! 🙏 I think the Whoniverse works best when Gallifrey and the Time Lords are thriving. The whole “last of the Time Lords” storyline has already run its course. I look forward to more stories involving Gallifrey and Time Lords. So much more can be written with them at the core.
@idle_speculation19 күн бұрын
@@dogolvI don’t think a return to the status quo would be the most interesting thing to do with the Time Lords. You could have them scattered throughout the universe in a diaspora without the power they once had. You could have Rassilon and his adherents return to the burnt cinder of Gallifrey to start anew. Without them or Division to maintain a rational universe you could see horrors of the dark times return. The Great Vampires, maybe, or eldritch beings like Fenric. Not quite the fantasy angle RTD2 is aiming for but a kind of cosmic horror adjacent space more akin to the later McCoy era, with ancient lovecraftian abominations and sorcerers emerging in a chaotic and hostile universe.
@dogolv19 күн бұрын
@@idle_speculation That is a little darker than I would hope for, but I’d go for that as well. Just so there are still factions of Time Lords that could have survived. That is my wish.

Became The Grand Serpent, infiltrated Unit. The flux lead him to the trickster, which allows him to reunite 14 with Donna, leading ti Bi generation. Donna/ 14 become the Hybrid. 15 becomes the Timeless child, causing a universal rewrite. The child becomes fugitive, who is saved by 13s Tardis as she fell to earth. By default 13 found the Tardis after Fugitive, causing her to see her own future. Fugitive is the spy masters counterpart, born after the rewrite, because she was hiding as Ruth he found 13 instead.

Doctors 9-12 from new who really made this show awesome. I have much respect for classic who but wow, a being who is depressed and lonely and sad and has the capacity for great anger and destruction but still choosing the path of mercy and the hero, and good/kindness. That’s something this show lost after capaldi. The Doctor of war ❤
@JeremyDuncan29 күн бұрын
Wow! What a great video! What I think would be an interesting idea is if you take a character like Rassilon and take away everything that makes him powerful, and make him one man out fro revenge. Imagine him going throughout all of time and space, stalking the doctor and altering his personal history. Imagine you are watching the show and certain things just don't add up, and you begin to realize the doctor's life is being taken apart slowly. But outside of what he does, he needs to have a defined personality and not just be this mythic monolith of lore.
