Um, no, it wasn’t just filming a firehouse. It was ‘a ‘boy’, in this instance, Tony Benatatos, a probationary firefighter, becoming a man in the nine months he’s on probation.’ Turns out, he became a man during 9/11, ‘you know how we know he’s a man? He’s not bragging about what he did that day.’

This was probably my favorite mission of the game. I found out years later that I had a relative who flew on B-24s with the 461st Bomb Group, 15th Air Force in Italy. He was a flight engineer/Top Turret gunner just behind the pilot and co pilot. I’d like to think this mission was poetic in a way.

The BAR was originally designed as an Automatic Rifle so troops in WW1 could maintain MG on the advance. It was specifically built to be fired from the hip. Only after WW1 did the Army load it down with a bipod and a heavy buffer in the stock in an attempt to make it a light machine gun. Yet many vets tossed away the bipod immediately and fired the rifle from the hip or the shoulder. I’ve always wondered if they tossed the buffer as well. The BAR in WW2 didn’t have a semi-automatic setting, only Fast and Slow. Yet here he clearly says his rifle had a SA setting. The way the Slow fire control worked if you removed the buffer (which weighed about a pound) from the stock the rifle would fire Semi. I’ve always suspected that was something combat troops would do. The added weight wasn’t necessary, no one liked the Slow setting and it wasn’t reliable either.

I’m 41, I was a senior in high school on 9/11. In getting older you not only see how many people died that tragic day but how many of the survivors in a lot of ways died that day too. Unbelievable bravery meets the guilt of surviving. Our world hasn’t been the same since.
@luvlypnut1106Ай бұрын
I will never forget, how can I? What a horrendous act of hatred! I was 45 at that time and watching the events unfold. Me and my coworkers were glued to the TV in the conference room. It's been 23 years, and I'm still angry about something horrible that I couldn't do anything to stop it. I'm still sorry for those who were victims, and the brave 1st responders. God be with all of you.

16:30 "Rescue Four to Manhattan, K." 2001 was one of the darkest years for Rescue Four. Prior to 9/11, Rescue Four had lost two men during the infamous Father's Day Fire in Astoria back on June 17th, 2001. Firefighters Harry Ford and Brian Fahey were the two men lost. On 9/11 itself, all hands were lost. Rescue Four dealt with Death in 2001, but it didn't let Death stop them in 2001; they kept going.

@@mysterymansecretsam380 I completely agree. I would love to see a new golden age of Hollywood films that tell real war stories like this one. The man left a whole book to work with. But the least I can do now is tell these stories here and make them as cinematic as I can.

In my opinion a good film, and there aren't many good civil war films. It's heavy on soliloquies, and inaccurately portrays the Confederate motivation as mere "states rights" - a lost cause myth. Overall however, it is a decent film. Its prequel "Gods and Generals", which was released some years later, was so awfully filled with lost cause mythology that it has to be seen to be believed.
