Back in the day at the Chico Yo-yo Club, probably around 2009-2012 Gentry Stein, Zac Rubbino, and I with help from Augie and Thad would click each other’s freestyles to see how we were scoring, Keiran and Kurti would stop by sometimes too. It was during those sessions that I realized yo-yo was changing and I’d never be at the level of these guys, it was a great time. But all of them really helped develop the modern freestyle (in America at least) and there was just no way I was hitting tricks to music like that, and I never could knack horizontal. I got into yo-yoing watching Job Rob, Tyler, Seth, Danny, and Jake. I just always appreciated and for myself enjoyed a slow and poignant approach to yo-yo… I just picked up yo-yo again a few years ago and I’m trying to figure out how I can create new concepts and bring back some of that slowed down swagger back.

I've been through both. Over 10 years of opiate/heroin addiction and a very short alcohol addiction. The alcohol has by far the more serious wothdrawl. But id rather go through ANY other WD than Heroin. That shit is so terrible.

I quit drinking not so randomly two Halloweens ago.... I started some new meds that made me not feel drunk so I drank almost an entire bottle of whiskey and then it all hit me at once. It's dope to see two childhood heros also gave everything up. I still smoke weed, but it's very limited because like Jake said, it makes me panic.
@j0j0kayАй бұрын
Opiates really do feel better than anything. I posted about being prescribed oxycodone and how it made me feel after shoulder surgery and Jake reached out to warn me and let me know he was there to chat. It was a necessary talk. I did kratom for like 3 years and finally tapered off, but never went for anything heavier thanks to Jake.

This was a good listen. I feel you Jake on the addictive nature of hobby collecting and falling down the rabbit hole on so many different things. I feel like a Jack of all trades but master of none sometimes but I know a lot of random shit so that’s cool I guess. Also, just hit seven years sober yesterday and man life is so much better than it was back in the day.
@RecessIntlАй бұрын
Congrats on your recovery 🙏🏼🙏🏼💖💖 I think there might be some positive sides to having an addictive personality - you just have to learn how to channel it - too bad I can’t be obsessed with the stock market and not Nirvana or WW2 😂💖
@jakebullockyoyoАй бұрын
Congratulations! Lucky seven. “Jack of all trades master of none” is exactly it. I’m half decent at a million things but I haven’t found that “one” thing in my adult life. Yoyos are the closest thing to a true unfettering passion for something that I have. But I’m learning to accept and roll with that. Variety is the spice of life, my brain can’t handle doing the same thing for too long and that’s just the way it is.
@jakebullockyoyoАй бұрын
@@RecessIntlbro that’s exactly it. Why can’t I get completely obsessed with engineering or math or running a cardboard factory. Nah I’m gonna re read this book about Columbine for the 11th time.

@@RecessIntl channeling it is definitely key! I was able to shave a ton of time and money off my masters degree because my school work became my obsession. Definitely wish that I could nerd out on stocks though too and make a killing haha 😂
@88GwillYАй бұрын
@@jakebullockyoyo thanks! It’s crazy to hit seven. The one thing that I’ve been grateful for with constantly nerding out about random stuff is keeping a growth mindset and open mind. Too many people I work with in education are too stubborn or scared to learn new things or challenge their defaults. So big silver lining there for sure on the learning and adaptability front.
