Hello. Not sure if you can help or lead me in the right direction? I'm 54 and in pretty good shape otherwise except for right side hip pain. I've been lifting weights for 40 years and never had an issue with my hip until about 4 years ago when I noticed some discomfort to the outside of my right hip the day after heavy full squats. It went away until I squatted again and then sometimes I would feel it in the low back above the buttock on that side after deadlifting. This went on for years and I tried to work around it by decreasing the weight for awhile, switching exercises, ect. But eventually I could feel it while squatting and for the past 6 months or so it has been bothering me at work as I stand and walk a lot. I have since stopped the heavy squats and deadlifts and now do light hack squats and some stiff-leg deadlifts, but the pain is almost constant. Its not really bad, just a dull ache mostly to the outside of the hip and sometimes the low back on that side, especially when sitting or standing for prolonged periods. I finally saw a doctor a few months ago and got an x-ray that he said looked good for someone my age, except for a small area to the L5-S1 with mild spondylosis, but he didn't think it was related to my hip pain. I got a cortisone shop to the hip joint which may have helped for a day or two, but then the pain was back to the way it was. I then tried Celebrex instead of the Ibuprofen I was taking with little to no relief. He then suggested PT and I did that for about 6 weeks with maybe slight relief at times, but not enough to make a difference. To be fair I didn't do all the exercises and stretches consistently (maybe every other or 3rd day) d/t work demands, my working out and their availability. Some of the stretches really hurt too, so I didn't want to push those and make it worse in case it was a tear or something. So I finally got an MRI the other day. The Dr. hasn't reviewed it yet, but it is apparently showing several small tears to the labral area. Now your video is confusing me because I have absolutely no pain towards the groin. It is all towards the outside of the hip and that is why we thought it was bursitis at first. The MRI also showed a small amount of fluid to the hip joint which says may reflect Chondrolabral Separation (whatever that means). Not sure what to do now? I know I don't want surgery and can get around fine at the moment, but just dealing with the constant pain and it is hindering my workouts. I know I don't want surgery and heard a lot of people end up having more surgeries later d/t scar tissue, ect. But I also heard that the cartilage does not heal itself (which is weird because I injured both my shoulders numerous times lifting and with enough rest or exercise modification, they always seemed to eventually heal on their own. But maybe the hip is different since you have to walk and stand on it every day? Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. I guess my biggest question is should I continue to work out (of course lighter weights for the lower body and don't do anything that obviously hurts) and continue the stretching and exercises PT suggested which currently include fire hydrants, hip thrusts without weight, planks, hamstring stretches and piriformis stretches (this is the one that hurts since I can't bend that leg down like the other side). I've been doing one set of these about every other day on the days I work out. BTW forgot to mention I got out of the habit of stretching years ago so that may be part of the issue, along with aging, as to why the heavy lifting may have caught up with me. Another thought is maybe trying something like PRP or stem cell injection. I know you probably can't legally recommend it since its not currently approved by the FDA, but from what I found online it sounds like it has much better success rates than even surgery and you are not out of commission for weeks or months. But then again it is very pricey and hate to spend all that money and take the chance it doesn't work, so just wondering if I should at least look into it? thanks again and sorry for the long post.

Yes I had a outside hardware surgery on my leg/ankle. I'm not a skinny guy but I do exercise to stay lean and fit. But I haven't been able to cause a year later after hardware surgery implant it's nothing but pain. Can't wear shoes or boots for to long cause the pain and my foot locks up or cramps up and I got less flexibility . My leg is healed but the pain still feels like it's broken. So I will have it removed and Doc said it's a 50/50 that pain will go away. That's not cool. But I guess it's worth a try even though costing me big money but I haven't been able to run or jump rope for almost a year now cause of the pain. My xray shows bone is healed so why do I have pain.

I am an 85 year old female, not very strong. I fell making my bed I went to emergency. They they tried to fix my dislocated shoulder. They were having trouble then they one fellow said doesn’t feel right. They sent me to imaging and they got x-rays and I was halfway out. The ball was halfway out and down below. It looks like an ice cream cone. I had a crack, about 40% of the way across so now they sent me home in a phone sling and I’m waiting to see what they wanna do with me. I have a fib occasionally and fluttering so I don’t know if they’ll get me cardiology just happened last night so I’m home. It’s very hard to get from a chair to the walker. Takes me about 30 minutes but I get up, thank you for listening

I've sprained my ankles so many times I didn't know I apparently broke the medial malleolus. I recently had x-rays for my Achilles issues and apparently there is an avulsion fracture and you can see the piece that broke off. But since I don't have any apparent issues (and had to have had it for years) the solution is to do nothing. But I guess that goes to show to go to the doctor even if you just think it is a sprain.

I'd love to hear more about treatments like Tenex and Tenjet. Vanessa Fraser, a well known runner, had bilateral Tenex. But we don't hear a lot about that from traditional Orthopedic Surgeons especially MDs vs. DOs. She also appears to have had Haglunds shaved down using that technique. I would really enjoy your opinion on the topic. Really miss your "that's gotta hurt" segments.

I asked my surgeon about Ibuprofen slowing bone healing, and he said not to worry about it if you're not taking it long-term. He said I could take it for my recovery of fibular+ankle fracture because animal studies have shown that it slows bone healing in animals, but apparently they did a human study and no correlation was found between taking Ibuprofen and bone healing. There is a risk of overdosing if you take alot of Ibuprofen for a long time (like for chronic pain)

Im 9 months post surgery amateur soccer player. Yet i finished last week my first solo session on the field with the ball and can say that the hard work each month payed off. Its still something different if u play a game with opponents, but after i realized that step by step my fitness and abilities to handle jumps and changes of direction are coming back, i keep gaining more and more trust that ill end up fine. I guess in the end its all about continuity the will to come back and the step by step work to the comeback without pressure. I can also say, that the Injury itself changed my life and diet. Since im already 32 now and tore it when i was 31 i had to think how i can maximize my chances to comeback. So i decided to lose some bodyfat. Im at a very low bodyfat percentage now and in a way better shape, that i had when i tore it. I guess if your having doubts about going back, just try to give it your all, if it tears again in the end u cant at least say to yourself that u tried everything. And in my opinion thats essential, that u tried your very best. Its a metaphor for sport itself. If u give your all u are likely to suceed but in the end theres never a garantuee.

I want to take the opportunity to thank you for the educational materials that you have provided on the youtube channel. It is much appreciated. Question regarding my injury and whether or not if i should consider surgery this coming days. I have a fracture to the fifth metatarsal due to an avulsion in zone #1, with a slight displacement to the left foot while playing tennis recreationally. Want to know the best possible method for my injury. Surgery with risks and benefits or natural healing risks and benefits? From your videos, usually with the zone 1, do not need surgery and let the natural healing process take its course and should start to heal slowly between 6-8 weeks. With this natural method, will the bone fused or not fused with my displacement without surgery intervention, will it causes issues in my mobility once healed, fused, or malunion, etc. If surgery, will it cause discomfort or complication in the future? basically risks & benefits with surgery? thanks in advance for your reply.

I'm not your typical osteitis pubis (OP) patient. I'm a 61-yr-old female, a non-athlete, not pregnant (!!), and I'm overweight. Before my OP diagnosis, I saw a urologist and gynecologist that could thankfully find nothing wrong with me. Being a post-menopausal old(er) woman, I was referred for pelvic floor therapy for a few months where I was treated for "vaginal pain and dryness" (with no success at lessening the pain). Finally, I saw a non-surgical orthopedist who agreed an MRI to focus on pelvic bones (and NOT organs). The MRI revealed severe OP. I've had three Depo Medrol steroid injections (40 - 80 mg) which have helped, but the pain is still dull and constant, and it "flares up" badly from time-to-time. I'm on an anti-inflammatory diet and take good curcumin/turmeric and other supplements -- you name it; I've tried it or WILL try it as I've been dealing with this debilitating pain for two years now. I have a consult coming up to discuss OP surgical options, but I'd love for conservative treatment to work. Swimming & exercising in the pool help, but I want to be sure I'm doing the *right* movements of strokes/kicks/exercises, so I'm about to go to PT specifically for the OP to learn a bit more. I think there are many women suffering in silence who've been misdiagnosed as having pelvic floor issues as the root cause when it's actually undiagnosed OP. Thank you for the info, Dr. Geier, and please keep women like us in mind with your helpful videos (as we're not represented in most OP studies). We need to be recognized, heard, studied, and treated like we (and not just athletes) matter, too!

I had a right THR 6 weeks ago exactly and could not be happier with the result. My leg pain went from severe to nothing, I'm easily walking two miles briskly every day and the quality of my life has improved dramatically. The people that have had mediocre or poor results from hip surgery went into it in bad physical shape. I was in very good shape and not overweight. I was home same day, on a walker for two days, a cane for three and then walking on my own. Once your hip pain gets unbearable and the quality of your life goes way down you'll be ready. ABSOLUTELY the best thing I ever did, and a huge 90% of people that have it done turn out great, and are only unhappy they waited too long to get their lives back. And oh yeah...I'm 70 years young.

I just found this video after much searching around on YT. I am a cyclist doing long rides on a road bike. I am sometimes lightly gripping around the horn of the brifter (brake and shifter) with my hand in a vertical position with a minimal outward flex of the hand. However, this gets repetitive and boring, so when there is no reason to be gripping the horn I flatten my hands out over the inner handlebar using only the fingers to support a more upright position. This flexes my wrist back so I'm using the fingers to support significant weight causing a lot of strain on the flexors which makes my inner elbow quite sore. Your explanation of the anatomy has helped me identify a bad practice that I need to stop. Thanks so much for this video. I have been search YT for days and have always attributed my soreness as a UCL pain. Bingo!
