So basically is the tyres that allow you to corner a lot faster, also brake faster and then the weight helps a lot too

Had an r36 passat come in for an alloy sump replacement owner had smashed into a rock somewhere in Ngatea and topped up the oil and drove home to Katikati about 50 ks. We thought it'd be a goner she was going to drive it to work until we said no. Replaced the sump, filled with oil started it up valve train rattled for about 15 seconds then dropped to idle and it was fine. Our vw specialist said the motors are bulletproof and it proved it.

That E36 is very cool. But in all seriousness, life is not just about material things. Surround yourself with good friends who care about you, find a job that gives you purpose, and get into an exercise routine. That’ll do wonders for your mental health, far more so than any car
@Brennonicolini20 сағат бұрын
@ good advice. But that will not solve my problems. Mainly the place I live. And that’s why cars bring me so much joy and happiness. Because they are the only things that I can be truly myself in. No restraints whatsoever. And where I live cars are absurdly expensive therefore the options are limited. But whenever I can get an opportunity to drive, I just do it. So count every day you live there as a blessing. Stay safe.

In april '24 I looked for one of those cars. One day i met guy, selling gray AT full stock swift for a very reasonable price for its mileage and condition. He looked bit sad and said that he was selling it because he needed money to build a house. I fell in love with the car after short test drive. We agreed on the final price and I went home to cash the money. An hour later I received a message on my phone telling: "car is no longer for sale. changed my mind". Next day I ordered blue MT from Japan in perfect condition with 50k km mileage for $14200. Now I fully understand why he changed his mind.

so a slightly modify street car with handling mods can catch up in reality and only cost 1/4 of the race car?
@KiwiCarLifeКүн бұрын
Well, yeah tbh the sequential gearbox and totally stripped interior are a bit overkill, a street car with coilovers, slicks and decent brakes will be not far off the pace
@richardclulee9764Күн бұрын
@@KiwiCarLife 100% this is true. A modified street car with decent and not too expensive mods and slicks will get close to the times of the M3 but if you are looking for ultimate performance and times and 10th's matter then you have to spend the money and the time to get there. The sequential is a circa $30K mod to the M3 and changed lap times by around a second! All power to the vast majority of guys that race modified street cars week in and week out and have a blast doing it.

actually for the ammount of tuning the M3 got, I think our winner should be the M135i ! 10 second is nothing! Get sticky tires, stage 1 tuning, remove spare wheel and rear seats, and it will lap the same with not NEAR the mods the M3 got. The torque of the M135i and its better weight distribution, balances the suspension and weight difference... Don't get me wrong, thats all for a single lap, long term of course the track tuned car will do better!
@zoltrix77792 күн бұрын
10s is nothing? Okay.
@richardclulee9764Күн бұрын
Interesting observations. I agree that the M135 did really well and it's subjective to say a racer is better than a road car but I think it might be a stretch to conclude that with the mods you are suggesting the M135i would get into the 14's. My (educated) guess is that slicks would give 3 seconds per lap and a light tune and lightening another 2-3 seconds. This would put the M135i in at around the 1.19's, maybe 1.18's. The reality is that every 10th of a second below 1.17 is very hard earned and normally requires $1000's in modifications and track tuning to achieve. Of course the best way to loose time is to be a better driver and in this case both cars were very well driven by the same man. Well done Liam and excellent video. Maybe next time we will get you out in an actual race!
@KiwiCarLifeКүн бұрын
Yeah would have to agree with Richard. Even with slick tyres, tune and a bit of weight saving, I still wouldn't expect the M135i to get close to 1:14. That M3 is so light and nimble. You'd have to shed a good 200-300kg and at that point you'd basically be turning the M135i into a race car anyway. 10 seconds is a truck load of time to make up. Think about F1, if you're even 0.5s off the pace you're uncompetitive. Shaving 10 seconds will take more than just better tyres and a bit of weight saving.

amazing vid! i have an F20 bmw myself and i HATE the floaty handling of it so i added a front strut brace and a rear chassis brace too both relatively inexpensive and its a NIGHT AND DAY difference in the driving experience! highly recommend doing it to yours, it would take those corners with ease at the track.
@KiwiCarLifeКүн бұрын
Thanks man yeah I've heard a lot of people adding bracing to the chassis. One of the M3 owner's mates said he drove one and it felt like the front was disconnected from the back. I don't really notice that trait, but any chassis stiffening mods are good
@jkeijzer141821 сағат бұрын
Actually, it is the rear subframe bushes that are softer than 30 year old e36 non m subframe bushes. The rear v-brace and a front brace sure help, but a better rear sway bar and the subframe bushes really make the car connected. The f80 m3 has no subframe bushes, they are metal to metal, makes a huge difference in feel

Hey bro, been watching your channel for awhile from Auckland. :) Doing a great job btw, keep it up!!! I'm thinking about upgrading to either BRZ/GT86 Manual(I know it's bit underpowered but...) or M135i Auto (i know its bit heavy but..) I've been driving a lot of FWD or AWD in my collection of cars in my past... I never owned RWD car(s) in my collection of owning one before. From your perspective, I'm going to daily and also track it more often so. What's your suggestion? I've been eyeing on 8spd ZF M135i since you own one and was gonna ask how's the reliability after been tracking it or daily it. Any recommendation will be great :)
@KiwiCarLifeКүн бұрын
Hey man BRZ vs M135i is a pretty easy choice imo. The M135i is much faster, has way more overhead for modifications, is already 6 seconds a lap faster on track out of the box and is a way nicer and more dailyable car with heaps of features. BRZ is potentially a little more reliable, but if you do your research into N55 common failure points like the valve cover seal, crank hub guard and making sure you overfill the oil a bit because they don't have a baffled sump, I wouldn't expect you to have any issues. Mine's been reliable
