Thank you! Your information is really useful. I'm on vacation, and a new employee didn't know how to change the drum with the OEM toner. By the way, I've got a money-saving tip to share. Due to the high cost of OEM toner, I use two drums: one for OEM toners and another for compatible cartridges. For daily printing, we use the compatibles, but for high-quality prints or executive meetings, we switch to the drum with the OEM toner. This strategy has saved us a lot over the past five years.

Hi Tin! Is there a chip available yet? I presume this is a MUST for the MC3326 to still use the cartridge after it has been refilled? The original cartridges are ridiculously expensive...a set is more than the printer cost me!

Thank you so much for sharing this information! About 5 years ago I had hard bypassed the front cover sensor (switch), which had become faulty on my Brother HL-5370DW printer. For the past 5 years that allowed me to print again, although I only print on rare occasions. However my initial fix was like a ticking time bomb because eventually the toner counter needed to be reset in order to continue printing, and that involved opening the front cover, and for the printer to sense that the front cover was open. But my hard bypass of taking out the sensor switch and soldering the two wires together prevented the printer from sensing that the front cover was open. So in that configuration I could not reset the toner counter. After watching this video, I realized what I likely needed to do, either wire in a proper front cover sensor replacement, or wire in a more durable switch of my own that I could toggle by hand whenever I wanted the printer to think that the front cover was open or closed. I was able to mount a slider switch to the top left about a third of the way from the back where I found enough space for it. Now I have a solution that should be more reliable than the original failure-prone front cover sensor, and which I can easily operate by hand from the top panel of the printer. Although my mounting is a bit sloppy as I used a thin drill bit to cut out a space for the switch, so far it works great!

THE CHIPS IN MOST TONER CARTRIDGES NOWADAYS COUNT THE NUMBER OF PAGES PRINTED AS WELL AS PAGE COVERAGE; THEY DO NOT COMBINE WITH A SENSOR TO DETECT HOW MUCH TONER IS IN THE CARTRIDGE. This can be confirmed by contacting Lexmark and many of the other printer manufacturers, as I have done myself. The consequence is that putting new toner into a cartridge will not add to the print count; it will simply be a waste of time and money, unless the chip counter underestimated the print count so that it reached the limit before the toner ran out--in this case, adding toner can get you a few more prints. The print manufacturers are all crooks who are in on this and have taken all sorts of measures over the years to keep you dependent on their supplies. They make their money off you by selling you ink and toner, not be selling you printers. They have all kinds of false pretexts for operating the way they do (e.g., 3rd party toner can ruin your printer, their recylcing program is better for the environment, the chips are very accurate at indicating toner levels, ...). The moral of the story is this: buy a laser printer that you know you can get replacement chips and toner for, and spread the word so that others don't get suckered too. And remember, even the cartridges that come with printers nowadays are "starter" cartridges that contain a mere fraction of toner/ink compared with standard cartridges. There's your immediate heads-up that you've been taken advantage of from the get go.

not sure how long it will last, but i fixed the cartridge error by cleaning the chip and metal contacts with rubbing alcohol, it starting working again immediately.

I just bought this printer today and was on the phone with Brother to ask them a bunch of questions and this was one since I had a previous Brother printer and KNEW the low toner light would keep popping up. Since I just got it today, I have not tried it but I will. And a couple in the comments said that you only need to press the back arrow IMMEDIATELY after pressing both back arrow and the X and the toner menu pops up immediately. THANKS to you and those who gave the additional comments.

My Brother mfc-9560 unable print 40. Help

I just wanna add that the cover must be completely open all the way down , if not, it doesn't work , I tried the procedure 30 or 40 times before of realizing that, the cover was open but not completely so the procedure didn't work until I opened it completely, thanks for your information friend it was really helfpul

You frequently don't even have to replace it. Just rub the dust coating from the two rubber rolls with a hard cloth until the rubber grips again.

My notebook was sending large print job when Yellow signaled "out of toner". Notebook was still sending more pages, and printer was still trying to receive pages. Dozens of attempts to reset failed. To dolve reset problem, I shut my notebook off so it couldn't send print job to printer. Printer still showed it was trying to receive print job. I pulled power plug from printer, waited 30 seconds, then plugged printer back in. On startup, printer was no longer trying to "receive data", but Yellow toner was still out. Then I followed the procedure here, worked first time.
