Personally, I find I-Vaug-I to be a very fun progression to use! It's a nice way to make the perfect cadence (V-I) sound a bit more interesting.

As part of my own study into music theory I created a fretboard map in software that allows you to overlay scales/modes/chords etc, and see them also on a keyboard, and an interactive circle of fifths, its free to use, no ads or marketing trackers, not a promotion as I dont sell it, but others may find very useful, if ok, I can add the link, but wont do, without asking first.

If you post the link as a reply I think I can allow it in KZbin studio.

I’ve seen John Williams move from flat III to V in star wars main theme, the lyrical part the progression is something like IV-IV-I-V, IV-IV-bIII-V

This video is honestly amazing, I've been studying music theory for a little over a year now and one thing that has always escaped me was tonal centers and relative modulations, and now I feel like I actually get it, thank you!

They are good apps, but they focus too much on chords database and chord progressions. They forget that chords exists as way to harmonize a top note, and none of those have features specifically to bridge chords with a melody note. They work fine for genres that tend to have blocky chords or are chords oriented in general.

Another great video. Thank you so much!! i am really learning something new everyday as a beginner songwriter and i continue finding new songs and I'm slowly beginning to really study music more than i ever have before and i'm starting to use more chords now all thanks to your videos and my goal now is to learn the circle of fifths to really get most the chords down and honestly i believe it will really benefit any songwriter. But you also gave me an idea to go back and look at one of over the 100 or so lyrics ive written before i even started playing an instrument to revise or just write music over, but it will be a bit time consuming since i have written and recorded so many lyrics and melodies and rythems for songs into bandlab and it's way to many to go through in a day but I'll pick from there whenever i need a bit more inspiration. As always thank you for your efforts and helpful information.

I woke up today inspired to write a song so i recorded melodies and rythems in a voice memo, but i decided to watch your videos first so i can better understand how im gonna approach this song. Thank you for your amazing inspiring videos. Every one of your videos opens my eyes more and more to new creative ideas and shows me how beautiful the land of music is and the impact theory and understanding all the tonal functions can really impact songwriting. And for me I'm starting to visualize music as a Canvas which is the idea but before applying paint to the canvas first finding the right colors to paint the idea and getting to know the colors, and which colors to use, and than gathering them and working them out on the canvas until it's a full piece or art and some times you will suprise yourself and find a twist in there which makes music all the more interesting. Thank you for your helpful teaching!!

So I am an interesting mix of these. I make music as Theoretical Symmetry. My first releases were on pi day of this year and my most recent was my first album on my birthday November 29th. I don't really make music for other people. I make it as a future home for my poetry. Many of your points i have ignored. A few of them have been founding principles of my music. I usually play about 3 video games at a time. This year i sublimated one of my games for FL moble and started making music. I would love to hear your opinion on my music. Specifically there is a song called "Jazz and Jam" by Theoretical Symmetry off my Album "Singularity A". I listen to a wide range of music. One of my favorite bands is the grateful dead. One of my favorite places in spacetime is the transition section of "China Cat Sunflower - I know you rider" Without knowing the music but having ut in mind there is a section of my song inspired by the transition peak of china rider Can you listen to these songs and let me know what you think. I wasn't copying the song but more trying to emulate that moment that keeps echoing in my soul
