The leaves of Moringa are God's gift for health but the seeds provide oil that is even more healing. Even the left over seeds, once the oil has been extracted, (the cake) can be used to purify water. If people only understood how well Moringa works every person would grow their own. It reversed my cancer and diabetes.

Hi 👋 Love this tour. Where did you get your Mexican Sunflowers?
@corymbiacottageorganicgard3417
@corymbiacottageorganicgard3417 5 ай бұрын
Thanks very much they do as a splash of colour and are very good for chop and drop. We got our Mexican Sunflower seeds from Happy Valley Seeds. We have found that they strike best when we just lay the stalks with the flowers on the ground rather than planting the seeds. That’s just what works in our area though. Oh there are quite a few other suppliers out there as well. Hope this helps and happy gardening 😊😊

Thank you for the video. I don't have a Thermomix - I have a pressure cooker - do you think I could cook the beans in the pressure cooker first, then blend up with a stick blender, then strain? Thanks.
@corymbiacottageorganicgard3417
@corymbiacottageorganicgard3417 5 ай бұрын
Hi sorry we didn't mention that. Without a Thermomix you would soak the beans overnight then strain the soak water add clean water as per the recipe, blend the beans at high speed then put in a large pot bring to the boil and boil for at least 15 min. we have also started adding 1/4 teaspoon of bicarb per litre which stops the milk from separating in your Coffee/Tea. Hope this helps

Excellent video thank you. I have Canna edulis growing down near Wollongong on south coast NSW. I will try making the arrowroot flour for baking my own gluten free bread as I figure I might as well make flour from what I have in my garden rather than always buying imported flours. You mentioned in another comment that you have tried using the whole chopped root to make GF flour, without separating out the starch. I think I will give that a go for my bread. Re: cooking arrowroot tubers as a vegetable - I've found it's best to peel, chop into thick slices and pre-cook in the pressure cooker for 15 minutes to soften the fibres. Then you can grill, fry or roast like you would a potato. Needs plenty of salt and flavouring of choice e.g. garlic oil, but is an acceptable alternative to potatoes, and much easier to grow. Where I live we get 1200mm plus of rain and lots of humidity, so normal potatoes tend to rot, but Qld arrowroot grows here like a weed!

Wow! Your brave having the Jerusalem Artichoke growing in the bed. I planted one piece in a square metre raised bed, and after the beautiful show of flowers died down, I went to harvest the roots. The bed was riddled with them!!! So hard to remove!

You are definitely right once you have them they are there forever. Actually we use the Jerusalem Artichoke as a chop and drop and over the summer it really provides a good amount of shade to the lower plants.

Hi glad you found the arrowroot video. In answer to your question we just crush the roots to get the starch out. Or if we just want flour we just crush them and dehydrate them then grind them in the thermie or bullet. And then you have the flour with a nice amount of starch in it. 😊😊

Hi Hibiscus sabdariffa (Rosella) is the only one we use for tea and it’s the calyx off these fruit which goes to make the tea and jam. Normal hibiscus with the flower 🌺 is Hibiscus rosa sinensis some of these are used for teas but you would have to do some research into how it is processed and the flavour would probably be different. Hope this helps😊👍🏻

@corymbiacottageorganicgard3417

Hi thanks for the question and sorry for the delay in reply. The only edible one that we are aware of is Canna edulis which is Queensland Arrowroot, to the best of our knowledge the other cannas look similar but aren’t edible. West Indian arrowroot however is an alternative BOTANICAL NAME: Maranta arundinacea COMMON NAMES: West Indian Arrowroot FAMILY: Marantaceae PLANT DESCRIPTION It is native to tropical South America. It does best on rich well-drained sandy loams. It is a completely different plant to Queensland Arrowroot Canna edulis It looks similar to Turmeric in leaf shape. The fine-grained starch, derived from the rhizomes, is the commercial source of arrowroot flour, which produces a very fine paste or jelly. USES Tubers can be eaten raw or baked but are very fibrous. To extract the starch, the tubers are first washed and then crushed. This pulp is mixed with water and passed through sieves to remove the fibres. The water is then evaporated off the trays, leaving the starch behind. The highly digestible starch is used in pastries, biscuits, and is preferred to flour in thickening soups, sauces and gravies. This information was from the green Harvest website. Hope this answers your question 😊😊

Hi, we use the pulp flour mixed with other flours and starches when we make cakes and bread for a gluten free alternative etc and we also make the most delicious vege patties for hamburgers and the like. So we just mix it with other flours when baking to obtain the desired consistency instead of using the standard flours. it is a beautiful light flour🙂🙂hope this helps

Why did you dump the pectin liquid out, only to pour it right back in?
@corymbiacottageorganicgard3417
@corymbiacottageorganicgard3417 11 ай бұрын
Great question, sorry we didn’t really explain this, but the reason to decant the liquid and put it back in is so we ensure we don’t put too much liquid in with the calyx’s as it would make a runny jam😊
