Still my favourite Underground rolling stock; we need those gangways in the states now!
@astock50002 күн бұрын
While some of the older stock tends to be my favourites, the open gangways on these are certainly a useful improvement. Often seems to be the case that US systems are rather cautious with new features, but perhaps they'll start to catch on there now that a small part of New York's R211 fleet is being built with them.

In all fairness, my first tube ride in London last summer was on the Circle and District lines from West Brompton to St James’s Park, and I was quickly fond of Sarah Parnell’s voice, the spacious moving corridor, and the open-air platforms. I even assumed all tube lines used these trains, until I used the Piccadilly and Central lines the following day (I regret taking the stairs after Hyde Park).

Thanks! The design looks a lot smarter to me now I've seen them in person, though I still feel these could have been painted in a neater way around the driver's side window and windscreen in particular

I haven't been to Harlow very often as it isn't on the way to somewhere else 😊 but I have wondered what it actually looks like. Whenever I have been there it has always been dark, foggy or both! Still, I saved myself a few quid not being able to find the shop I was looking for.

Love the quality ❤ but I don’t understand why so many bus routes now terminate here?? With 104 and 101 now
@astock500022 күн бұрын
I'd assume it's a result of the Thames, London City Airport, the Royal Docks and so on all being nearby, leaving relatively few destinations to serve to the south and east, while the DLR covers the north side of the Royal Docks west towards Canning Town. Overall though, I wouldn't say it's an unusually-high proportion of routes which terminate there when compared to other bus stations. It is, however, different from those in being more of a standalone interchange and rail feeder rather than serving a town centre etc.

Modern Buses are bland and have zero character
@astock500026 күн бұрын
Character can be a weird thing - very few people these days would describe an RT as characterless and yet when they were new, that's how some viewed them compared to the trams and 1930s buses they replaced. I suppose it comes down to a combination of history, nostalgia and how individual vehicles age. Some, but not all, of that of course depends on the person. For me, 'character' would apply to most types up to the late 1990s or so (although it's not a huge factor in my interest in buses generally).
