Why do I hate the false sleeves so much… I mean, the gown has already sleeves, which are already very impractical, but putting on EXTRA impractical cuffs to get dirty when helping the queen get dressed, use the chamber pot or while eating… Just why? And I get the argument with impracticality being a status symbol, but these ladies helped the queen with everything the maids were doing for them… Just some midnight ranting😅

It always makes me so mad when they don't wear anything under stays or corsets in movies and TV shows. In Bridgerton for example they wear the stays on their bare skin, like bras. It must be so uncomfortable

I certainly get the whole fainting chaise thing! With all those layers, I would’ve been passing out anytime it was above 60°F outside

I know there’s gonna be someone hate on the corset, but because it used to be used to hold all the layers up into keep the back straight up, so no leaning no slouching stuff like that

i'm doing some light research for a rough draft of a story intended to take place in roughly 1500s-1600s Florence, Italy. you said married women wore they hair up, so how would an unmarried woman? for reference, this character is a youngish teenager daughter of a fairly wealthy family (not that she sees much of the results of said wealth...)

Thank you for creating this wonderful and poignant short series. I wish that we as humans learned from The Great War and did no more war ever again, but sadly this isn’t the case.

Can you tell me what part of the year this dress was worn because it is 125 degrees in the summertime in Twentynine Palms California; which is in the Mojave Desert and in the Mid-West, in June-August it is hot and humid, or so I'm told, I've never actually lived outside of the Desert Southwest.

The costume designers who work for theatre and film companies all over the world are incredibly skilled and talented, with this dress being a prime example of that. After all, the balance between believability and performer comfort is a delicate one, with modern Health and Regulations also being an important variable in costume design. So, kudos to them for ensuring the dress featured in this video fits the opera's aesthitics, while also being as safe and comfortable as possible for the performer.
