I love it. I loved how 1665 became The Girl with the Pearl Earring too. I hope they do more of these. Portraits, famous paintings, they can even do famous photographs from more modern eras. It’s so cool to get the breakdown and then the lightning bolt realisation of how it applies to an image you’ve seen all your life.

Sometimes I narrate in my head when I get dressed. Like "tinted lip balm was a popular choice for everyday wear, and could be found in a variety of colors" or "in colder seasons, pantyhose were worn. They could be made from nylon or from thick wool, depending on the weather"

I did comment this on a couple of posts ago. They currently don't have the budjet and means to get outside experts to help with non-european fashions. They do want to get people of different cultures to help with the videos to make sure it's correct, and right now it's not possible.

As an Asian of Southeast Asia person, I enjoy very much watching a channel that caters to Western clothing culture of all periods and I take no offense if they choose not to dive into clothing cultures outside Europe. Instead of asking Westerners to represent/showcase clothing style of non-European, how about someone from that culture itself have the decency to tell their story of their clothing culture to the world with its own KZbin platform?

@@chiaraballet6221 mona doesnt mean anything in english. (It's a name) I know that in italian it's a profanity of some sort, that's why it's called la Giocoda in italian (La Joconde, in french). This is what I was tought in art history.

@@miippi I think then Mona is a mispelling of the term Monna wich in florentine dialect (wich is what Da Vinci spoke) is the equivalent of Miss or Lady . The painting in italian can be called Monna Lisa (Miss Lisa) or la Gioconda, as you said, (Wich comes from her husband's name).

I'm impressed how 'modern' those white indoor shoes are. I think you could find rather similar examples in the centuries ever since, a truly timeless design! Leonardo getting 'distracted by other commissions' is something of an understatement from what I know of him, guy was all _over_ the place.

I was lucky to have seen the Mona Lisa at the Louvre while I was in Paris over 12 years ago. It's actually not a very big portrait at all and you have to get in line to see it. Even then, they won't let you get really close to it because it's been stolen from the Louvre before which is why the portrait is famous to begin with. I would love to see a dramatization inspired by Degas's ballet dancers and maybe even feature the sculpture he made of one of them.

Yes, expect that it was not famous because it was stolen. It was famous before the theft in 1911.

A curiosity: judging from the Gioconda copy in Madrid (a painting that was discovered, it was made at the same time as the original Gioconda by one of Leonardo's disciples, perhaps as a way of improving their technique while painting at the same time as the master), the original sleeves were probably red. Now we see them as a burnt gold because of the yellowish varnish.

Wow, now THAT was a surprise! Excellent production. I almost always find these styles beautiful as well as comfortable, but the soft silk sleeves over billowing chemise sleeves would be quite annoying for me. Incidentally, at least in modern Italian, Camicia is pronounced ca-mi-tchia.
