Thank you! I’m learning so much from you! So, we don’t have to do any of these steps if we have a determinate tomato 🍅 plant?
@Gardenary
@Gardenary 4 сағат бұрын
Determinate tomatoes are basically self-pruning, but you'll still want to remove any discolored or pest-affected leaves. That's pretty much it.

I have a thriving vegetable garden right now, all Bonnie’s plants from Lowe’s. I don’t use miracle grow though, I amend the soil and use organic fertilizers like bone meal, blood meal, fish emulsion, and epsom salts. None of my plants hate ever died.

Thank you for the details information on these herbs, I have most of them, but in pots. Will separate them & replant then among my garden. Notice the study cages/ trellises in your garden? Would love to get some like yours. Please advice. My ordinary tomato cages have not live up to their potential. Collapsed under pressure every year. Appreciate much.

Tomato cages are the worst! We love a nice, strong metal trellis. You can find all the trellises in this video at shop.gardenary.com. I think the one featured most is the Nicole Arch Trellis

@Gardenary ahh! Maybe it's reseeding. It does it by itself that and my lemon balm were planted on one side of my house. I just let it die down during winter. So this spring I checked and sure enough, there were so many teeny-tiny baby basil plants growing! I transplanted them away from lemon balm this year and they are thriving.

Nice thoughts. Garden looks nice, looks like it brings much joy! Good on you. Im sorry it just isnt true, that highly productive food producing plants can thrive in the same fashion as wild plants adapted to survive in harsh environments? Its just not a good comparison in my view. I love the attitude and approach of observing and learning from and mimicing what makes sense in nature, but a good dose of actual natural science, especially soil science is needed, applied as an amendment to these well meaning approaches. I will say its true that plants prefer and grow better with slow release nutrients, but if its not there already in the soil available at the roots, you wont get healthy fruits. And if the minerals become unbalanced like high P locking up in the soil due to overapplying manures, plants will become deseased and dificient, i know this from personal experience and agronomy. You are using natural fertiliser, which has the same NPK chemicals as commercial fertiliser, you just dont know how much or what your soil actual needs. Get a soil test with recommendations and you will understand what you have missed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKu0Z2yGl5yog6ssi=SJiNkxipQax9i5YQ

Question, how can you see if you have pests with everything packed in like that? I want to break the rules with you but I’m afraid not being able to see the soil I’ll get pest infestation. Your garden looks amazing! I need to try this.

HELP HELP HELP! Please please please if you can do a video on pith necrosis and pseudomanas corrugata disease on tomato plants! I've lost 5 out of 8 of my beef steak plants and I think I have one or both of those diseases I noticed black spots up and down the stems in different areas and when I prune the dead branches I've noticed inside the stems are completely hollowed out with decay! It's my very first garden so i know the soil is new since this spring! Just wondering different methods of prevention treatment and what I can do to make sure the soil is good enough for the next round of plants! Thanks you!
@Gardenary
@Gardenary 9 сағат бұрын
I'd start with a soil test. Avoid planting more tomatoes or peppers in that area until you know what's going on

This resonates with me. I pruned suckers off of my indeterminate tomatoes last year, and it really reduced my yields from the prior year when I mostly left them on the plants. My growing season isn't short, but it's not especially long either, and my garden only gets just over 6 hours of sun, so I need as many fruit producing trusses as I can get. Too many youtubers offer one size fits all recommendations, so I really appreciate this contrary take

When I first put in a vegetable garden, many years ago, I mixed cow manure into my hard dry top soil, and put in plants. They grew like crazy and gave me many tomatoes, etc. One tomato plant later sprouted all by itself in the front yard. I gave it no care at all and it gave me a bumper crop of cherry tomatoes! Later I heard that cow manure adds too much salt in the soil and I stopped using it, and my gardens produced almost nothing. Fast forward many years - now I “KNOW” how to make good garden soil, so I tried again. I dug out a big area, added all sorts of bags of “good” soil, bought wonderful, expensive, organic fertilizers, as directed, and my vegetable garden of the last few years has been a huge and disappointing failure! On further and deeper searches, I’ve heard that using bagged soils is not the way to go either. I’m trying small amounts of cow manure and ignoring my plants this year.

I love this idea and growing your own food/herbs in general. But i always wonder how much energy the oven needs, and if that is cost efficient in the end? Do you perhaps dry several batches at once? Thank you 🤗
