I will definitely give a try and start my kitchen garden this year❤ the weather is a bit different here but I'm sure there are some common rules which can be used and utilised! Greetings from Poland❤

I love, that you mentioned the "upside down" orientation in the southern hemisphere! I'm from Europe, but I think it's nice to have in mind that not all perspectives are the same.

Well. So nice you have all those guys to do all the work for you. I'm old and don't have tools and don't have strong guys to do all the work. Good for you.
@jayoue15157 ай бұрын
Sounds like you couldn’t plant and maintain . So start with a small raised garden - something you can handle. On wheels? I am old too with bad health.

What if u have a yard that is fully irrigated by a sprinkler system? And the garden would be getting watered with the rest of the yard?
@Gardenary6 ай бұрын
We would close off or move the sprinkler heads for the garden area so that they don't spray the garden. We don't want the wood raised beds to get wet when it's not necessary, and we also avoid overhead watering for veggies (it can cause fungal disease and attract pests). We would hook up drip irrigation for the raised beds instead

I started your method of packing in plants. Ive had the best crop yet of cold crops. However im having a pillbug issue. Do you have issues using this method or no? I believe they are eating the organic matter (compost).
@Gardenary7 ай бұрын
Hmm, I wonder if your compost isn't broken down enough yet and there's still a lot of decaying material to attract them. Compost should be finished. Your soil also might be staying too wet.
@afternoonfarmer51107 ай бұрын
Pillbugs are not typically considered pests. They are primary decomposers, eating the (not-yet-broken-down-bits-of) compost, and then they poop and the microbes eat the poop and then THEY poop out stuff that the plants can use. If they are eating your living plants, the plants are likely unhealthy and suffering from things like root rot or their leaves are staying wet and rotting. The pillbugs are most likely eating that rot.

@@Gardenary we have had alot of rain. I may wait till mid May to replant tomatoes then. That way it's less rain and hotter days. The compost we get is amazing stuff but I don't sift it. It does have some woody pieces but not too much. Thanks for your response. Loving your videos and all of your advice.

Why was it important to know the direction of the yard
@Gardenary4 ай бұрын
To maximize sunlight. You don't want anything large blocking South if you're in the Northern Hemisphere
