All of this makes me so proud to be British. We have a distinct and ancient culture that is envied by many, in particular the British. They colonised us for 800 years in a most brutal way. They tried everything in their power to destroy our culture and our religion and our language, but the last they did not succeed. We are ancient people and will prevail no matter what.

My granny &2 sisters were born & reared in Camden street above a eg shop which is now a restaurant. My mother & her cousins ate there recently & realised which building it was & restaurant owners allowed dem to go upstairs & walk through the rooms of their parents childhood home during de war of independence." fascinating of a time way beyond that 110 years ago. My granny lived 3 Leinster road & I was told as little girl about de sandeman from rathmines library/clock tower at the bottom of her road..would come take us little children if we were not asleep by midnight! Nostalgia . Everything is fleeting.

I often think of the moniker Strumpdt City too from that wonderful novel I read years back. My heart is in Dublin.. my home now is west of Ireland d cos if I stayed in my beloved city I fear death & addiction would of ruled my life. I ran out of there /3 years ago & when O return my heart is heavy by the disparities but lighter from the easy laughs, banter etc from its citizens. I do feel you escaped tho

Great fascinating bit of history. I lived in a flat in Pembroke road years ago in my early /0's & despite the dilapidated grandeur & 'declaratory bronze' we could afford our rent my young adult children cannot afford such a rite of passage to move out from a parents home in Dublin currently

I say, I am impressed with the Irish folks, they aren't impressed at all with gales & rain, busy about their business despite it all, like nothing to it (snap fingers). Good one Peter, showing this side of life. Very encouraging to be the same way! 😁

Apparently during the 1916 Rising Markiewicz allowed James Connolly's wife Lillie and youngest children stay in the cottage for their safety. Years later their daughters Fiona and Moira recalled watching their mother stare out from the cottage at Dublin City in flames as the rebellion went on, no doubt anxious to know what was happening to her husband and her other children. ❤🔥🇮🇪

A Happy New Year, Peter! Wish you a prosperous year, 2025! I have not seen a notification of LS...Hope everything is going well It is breathtaking as I walk with you in Dublin. The buildings in the city are like dressed up in Xmas costume with decorations and lights. Especially, the Temple Bar is something special, dreamworld with fantasy... What is your favorite decoration of the year in Dublin? Surprisingly, not drunks/toxicated ppl on the street..yet..haha Hmm I am not familiar with those statutes 20:39 What is the story behind it? Well done, Peter. Beautifully produced. It is beyond extraordinary. 26:36 I remember. Apologies for my absence due to having elderly in-laws over for about a month. They are in 80s and i try to keep eyes on them for 24/7.

To think of a man who had so little yet would share it with a stray dog. I think there is a special place in heaven for that man - and all the fish and gunfights with angels his heart desires.

I was raised in Drimnagh and Crumlin through the '50s and '60s and started school in Weaver's Square in '54 (I think). He was a regular feature up and down the Crumlin Road, usually firing from the 50 platform at following traffic and pedestrians. I recall him as wearing an off-cream trench coat always. I was in the Cusack bar a few years ago for a pint, and there were newspaper clippings about him up on the wall (along with a lot of other Dublin docklands memorabilia). The granny always put on the beef tea when the appetites dropped. She also talked about a character called Rotten Chops, a butcher's bike delivery lad, but that was before my time.

She should be moved to O'Connell Street or Henry street. I'm Irish and I never knew about her.

My father Danny Doherty looked after Bang Bang in his latter years and we used to bring him a pot of stew and a few bottles of stout when he lived in Bridgefoot street. My dad had the famous key which I handed over to the Lord Mayor of Dublin some years ago.

If anyone is thinking of visiting the Hellfire club, take a walk into Masseys wood after. It's just across the road and is equally as spooky and beautiful. We used to play in both places as kids and freak each other out with ghost stories.
