This is thebperfect example of a revolutionary psychology principle re mate choice. Yes women like tall men, good looking men, achievers in making $ , but pñaimer men,,shorter men evoñved lomg ago to.perfect thier own individual schtik: extraordinary dancing,,musical, writing skills will get a man alot of women he wouldnt otherwise attract...women admire and are attrected to competence !

While many comments are focused on the smoking, I was focused on his fingerings. I don’t know anything about Rush’s piano training per se, but he obviously plays, at least at some level. This tune in particular would be extremely difficult to mime, even for such an accomplished Actor as himself, but; his prowess on the keys belies some form of formal piano training. Incroiable,, c’est non?

Fun fact: Geoffrey Rush once learned the piano up until aged fourteen but took up piano lessons again thirty years later for the role in order not to require a hand double.

This is beautiful. In the small group of "Long New Order Instrumentals" that exist, I'd put it above Eligia. Thanks for sharing.

Please excuse my ignorance but did this album come out before or after Peter Saville's extracurricular activities were revealed? Regardless a free form New Order jam is a wonderful thing to discover. I'm a big fan but never heard of this.

Yes. Geoffrey Rush is a brilliants and lovable actor ... but he is portraying an even more brilliant and lovable person, David Helfgott. Please don't forget. I met Helfgott shortly a couple of times after concerts in Denmark and when I told him my name is Leif he hugged me long and dearly and kept repeating "Leif Den Lykkelige" which was the nordic explorer that came to America 500 years before Columbus. Helfgott lived in Denmark for some time in my home town though I regrettable never met him at that time. When he played his birthday concert in Copenhagen after the regular set he kept running off stage asking his wife if he could play another piece. She rushed him in again and he ran back on stage and asked the audience if he could play another piece. The love from the audiience was never ending. He ended up playing double time, a night never to forget. I still cry when I reminisce.

Honestly I wasn't shocked to learn that Geoffrey Rush re-learned how to play the piano so he could do this scene without faking it.

One of the greatest scenes of cinema history. A bum - sneering and ''throw him out' - and suddenly 'Flight of the Bumblebee' played with cigarette. I especially love Sylvia played by Sonia Todd who encourages him and whose surprise is palpable.
