Great video and walkthrough, brother! I've been so busy over the summer and haven't even spent much time in my studio or with my MPCX. Just hearing these sounds again reminds me that I want them all and will eventually get them after all the gigging subsides from the busy season. Hoping all is well my friend 🙏🏼🎹

I had the Fantom X8 for about 12 years, sold it about 4 years ago. My biggest gripe about it was the volume output on it was way too low. That, and the sounds just seemed to sound cheesier and more dated with each passing year. Mine was expanded with cards and it had the max sampler memory. The sampler is a joke, way too cumbersome and limiting, way easier to do that in software on a laptop. The acoustic pianos were weak next to my Yamaha CP300. On the positive side, it is a well-made keyboard, hand-built in Japan, maybe the last of the flagships that Roland still made in Japan. The keyboard action is outstanding on it, with aftertouch. I miss the keyboard feel of that board, but nothing else. Regarding the Fantom G8, I played one once at Guitar Center, and I could hear the higher fidelity of the sounds compared to the X8, and the keyboard action was also excellent.

I mostly agree with what you are saying, one has to assume that the NI coders will eventually get up to speed with the hardware. I will stay that they've been promising a template editor but have yet to deliver this basic functionality. I've come really close to picking up a used MK2 but decided against it when I realized that various models can't co-exist (I have an S88MK3 and an M32).

I have the Xv-5080 lifetime license but find it unusable for live performance. If I don’t hook my laptop to the internet frequently, it starts cutting out and making random noises presumably because it needs to validate the license periodically. This has led to some embarrassing live performances. If it gave a warning that license needs to be validated, then maybe I could live with it.

I use the force for testing my expansions. The actual workflow I different so I don’t really use it much. Like the Maschine software, I do not really use that either. One day I’ll have to make a comparison video of all three. MPC is still #1 for me.

Personally I hope it’s not the last update , I just got the fantom for £3k including the ex brand new as it seems this update made it more what I was looking for, sold my Kronos as the feel was not as good, and the piano would cut notes off while I was playing, never had that on my Oasys or anything else I’ve owned for a long time. Anyway after getting an rd2000 and loving the feel and some sounds, the v piano allows unlimited polyphony, fantastic, so now I can have all the sounds I loved on my jd800, an1x, jp8000, xv stuff, Jupiter on the list goes on. Genius. Just trying to get my head around the tr rec mode. For certain things and I’ll probably do the same as you stick to the Mpc x for sequencing. Will also try pushing it all to logic to finish a track off.

Let’s keep your fingers crossed. The Fantom is pretty good as it is. Roland has proven that they could abandon their hardware platform as they did with the Fantom G supernatural.

Hey man great video and music on this machine well done! Do you ever used the footswitches on it to perform while playing guitar or have your hands busy playing an instrument to trigger with your feet some parameters on it as change pads/clis and scenes pre recorded to arrange a full structure of a song live or even for record/stop/play for example ? I’m considering to change my workflow from a looper artist perspective to something like that to be able to build more complex projects and but still a bit scary to face this “all in one” type of machine but this one seems absolutely a dream of a gear for me if I manage to learn it properly 😅 any advice, tips, encouragements will be very much appreciated sir, cheers and thanks for the great video🙏🏽
