Ya, unless these companies can figure out that higher fps doesnt translate to a good handheld experience, steam deck is king. I got an ROG Ally, tried it out, and hated it. It was just so clunky navigating windows in a form that it clearly wasnt designed for. Months later, I got the Steam Deck and now I can hardly put it down. I have a 4090. OLED ultrawide monitor. The handheld experience is just so good that I honestly wouldn't mind gaming on just that.

Conclusion: if you have a 2080 Ti your next upgrade should be no less than a 4070 super or 7800 XT in terms of performance

I feel power consumption is blown out of proportion a bit. The 14700k's max power draw is 91W higher than the 7800x3d. It's unlikely either chip will run that hard while gaming, but the electricity cost difference won't be that great if they do. A kWh costs an average of 17¢. Including the cost of air conditioning, you'd have to run both at full steam for 24 hours straight to realize a costs savings of just 50¢. If you think that's a big deal, 10 minutes in the shower cost 50¢ as well. The energy consumption difference is trivial.

Steam Deck still can't be ordered in Australia, let alone Steam Deck OLED. If you can get it from another importer, it's a minimum of $200-300 mark up. Grey import? No thanks, Valve won't recognise the warranty.

Would love some performance charts, 3dmark etc vs steamdeck and rog ally, legion go etc. But other then that, awesome video :) thanks. Will buy for the kids if the performance is as good as the rest :)

None of these devices are a Steam Deck killer, because what they all miss is that the overall experience in a handheld is far more important than having the biggest numbers on the spec sheet. The only number that really matters in a handheld is the battery life and nothing can touch the Steam Deck in this reguard, although this is admittedly better than the paltry hour or so that the Ally and Legion Go give you.
@MarkLangdahl
@MarkLangdahl 2 күн бұрын
I gotta say that the 60Hz native screen is a kick in the nuts to the device. It certainly does save on battery life. But if that is your concern then the Legion Go and the ROG Ally can both be put into 60Hz mode to get the same effect. But having the option of higher refresh rate for less demanding games I think is a good thing. I ended up getting myself a Legion Go half a year ago. So I'm really not the target audience as I have already gone with a competing device instead. And where that device is hampered by the screen lacking VRR at least the screen does look awesome. Especially for games old enough that you can run them at native res... Which I would say is true for a surprisingly large amount of games. The option of having a keyboard under the screen on the Core HS I do find attractive when simply using it for browsing the web. But I wouldn't say this device is filling me with buyer's remorse...

Looking at the graphs its a little jarring to always have the longer bar up top. While you were talking I always had to look at which bar was amd and which was the 3090 ti. If you consistently had amd on the top or bottom it would have been easier to follow.

It will be almost 2 years having 7950x, however i am mad i didn't wait for x3D parts which i thought would come much later. Definitely going to upgrade to 9800x3D or 9950x3D, base zen 5 doesn't seem like worthy upgrade.

I'm fine with what I have right now but if the 9950X or 9950X3D are a particularly steep step up I will probably pick one up. Waiting for benchmarks on that. I have a weird use case though. If it was just for standard gaming, I'd definitely sit this generation out.

I am gaming on 4K and it seems that 5800xd3 (which I currently have) performs almost the same as the 7800x3d for most games (MSFS and 1 other were an exception) if paired with the 4090. So an upgrade of cpu only seems to be necessary when the next generation of gpu's can spit out more fps than my current cpu can handle.

Don't see the point of RT unless your running a 4090, performance just tanks for all cards especially for the marginal visual improvement and enabling upscalers will just reverse the visuals that you've just gained. So you may as well just run ultra quality without RT

the cooling cost would be a big difference, 7800x3d can easily do away with a 240mm AIO while 14700k will need 360mm with optimal case fans to avoid overheating

I have the Zen 4 7800X3D and love it, but the Zen 5 9800X3D will release this year, after the Non X3D release, and AMD said to have improved the X3DVcache to have have more Vcache, faster Vcache for gaming while also being over 5.5Ghz and more efficient, so If I where you I would save my money and wait for Zen 5 X3D.

I'd love something like a 7800x3d that could overclock and had a few more cores, or at least another CCD without issues. Having a single CCD really hurts the bandwidth of the 7800x3d and being able to overclock the IF/interconnects a little further next further to claw back some of the bottleneck would be fantastic. Either that or some real developments in how they handle pairings of 3D and non-3D cache CCDs on the same platform.

Unlikely, since Zen 5 X3D will come out at the end of this year sometime after September, with better, faster and more improved Vcache for gaming, they will also have more Vcache then the 7800X3D and will be over 5.5Ghz Clock Speed while been more efficient and thats not all the 12 and 16 core 9900X3D and 9950X3D will have all cores in a single CCD meaning all cores will have Vcache on Zen5 X3D, leaving Intel once again Eating AMDs Dust.
