Couple of things: 1. 1-4 FPS difference is margin of error. Hell if any windows app does any kind of update at one time it can produce even bigger differences. 2. Nowadays the 2 chips cost exactly the same 3. Heat and cooling necessity are big factors! Having the same performance with WAY less heat and cooler demand is worth even 20$ extra for me in favor of the 7600! Also, this is better for CPU longevity as well. The 7600X opetates constantly by design at much higher temperatures. 4. Better RAM compatibility with 7600, since general CPU operating frequency is lower

The real question here is what happens when you turn on PBO between the two parts, that is a test worth doing. This channel works it's ass off to give us answers, I don't know how big your team is, but thanks for this hard work.

PBO kills CPU over time, generates unnecessary heat, when you get nothing in return in terms of FPS. Some games even run worse with overclocks!

@@zeus1117 The PBO worked great on my 5600X, it never broke 76* C (I live in an areas with hot ambient) and it definitely created additional performance as I could test it on and off without going into bios.

The point of the R5 7600 is the same as with all the 65w rated am5 chips.. to provide options that are easier to cool and run on even the cheapest motherboards. It's one of the solutions that isn't overly aggressive on boost or power and more likely to just work.

There's about a 10-15 Euro price difference at the moment here in Italy. I recommended the standard 7600 for two builds I'm putting together for friends who are just getting into PC gaming. That sub 200 Euro price point is phenomenal, especially for the upgradability AM5 provides. My only knock on AM5 is the lack of quality budget B650 boards being available, which is true at least here in Italy.

My first AM5 build I ordered a 7600 for $199. Before I opened it the 7600x went on sale from $230 to $199. I returned the 7600 and ordered the 7600x. 7600 is great if the price is $30 less, you are running a low power SFF sort of build. 7600x if the price is very close to 7600. If you have ample cooling. If you have a GPU with enough muscle to benefit from the added X clock speeds. And if you just want to run stock settings and not overclocking it. All reasons to buy the X.

I liken these 2 CPUs to an OC/Non-OC GFX card of the same make/model, so pay a bit extra for a pre-factory overclock. With the non-X CPU you can disable the ECO mode and run it to the same TDP at the X version, your mileage will just vary due to silicon lottery.

Currently the 7600 is 193 and the 7600x is 183. Should I get the x or non x since the non x comes with a cpu cooler and I’d have to buy one for the x. First time pc builder btw

These fake journalists/KZbinrs aren't going to do that because "we need 4090 to eliminate all bottlenecks". A GPU scaling with a 7800XT, 7900 XTX and a 4090 would give a better picture as to what the limit is for the CPU. That would make the 4090 look terrible. BUT they are essentially selling you, an ad, for the 4090 and nothing else.

the non X comes with a cooler which is adequate if your ambient temps are close to 25°C. if you are living in countries where avg temps are in their high 30°C . you definitely need an after market cooler.

I guess it's cool that people make these comparisons but I think it's kind of pointless. They are the same generation, same core count, and the main difference is faster clocks on the 7600x than on the 7600. Looking at the results it makes total sense and is in line with exactly what I'd expect. I'm not interested in a 6 core CPU nor do I have AM5. I might be interested in getting an AM5 motherboard and upgrading when the 9000 series comes out but even then I'll probably wait for the 3D chips. I'm fine on my AM4 system for now and I'm only considering an upgrade soon for more longevity out of my PC and more upgrade options with AM5 compared to the dead end that is AM4.

Just like 5600 vs 5600x. My 5600 is just a bit faster than stock 5600x being clocked to 4.7 all core all the time. The difference is a 2-3% better bin on the X part. Thats it.

AMD sell the "better" binned chips initially when they release new gen as "x" and the "non x" they promote as lower power as the initial sale die down and the lesser quality chips are hanging around. I have a 7900x I got from microcenter near me with "free" ram and $50 mobo discount November 2022(poor sales, new AM5 platform) for about $550 at that time(CPU and ram), but if they offered me 7900 non x for $100 less I would have def taken that bait. It's never offered at release, nor for many months after release. Many of the non x chips were praised for the price to performance justifiablely so. If there's a difference you can still OC the non x chip and get better numbers than these stock, just have to tweak bc stability may take some trial and error. Not everyones into that. X vs Non X was just something AMD did before x3d. Look at first gen Ryzen (1700, 1700x, 1800 etc etc) huge price difference for no difference. AMD is about to release the next gen zen 5 soon, it's not that different now from what's been released. Nobody can be sure, but from looking at comments on "rumor sites" first thing they ask, "how many months until x3d?" is everywhere. The traditional staggered product release won't hurt them, but i think the market consumer isn't responding to as much and can't afford buying 20% uptick then buying the 3d on the same platform. Personally I think customers would be happy with a simultaneous release of x3d, lower binned x , and non x or "e" variet where it's eco mode. AMD has sold NON graphic APU's recently which makes zero sense and zero discount on them. What are you doing? So it's really uncertain what's going to happen upon this Zen 5 release. Only thing that is certain is that AMD marketing team can be a Sh*t show and wait 2 months to buy a new release for a better price.

I love your tests, for me personally u have taken the spot from HUB when it comes to comparisons. But would love to see a change in e-sport titles when it comes to settings, no need to use high settings. Otherwise u are nr1. I had an 7600, and it was such a breeze to get it to 5.5ghz all core, before I upgraded to 7800x3d and then got rid of am5 in-favour of an 12700k because intel at that time worked better with amd gpus in warzone. somehow the perf was limited to about 200fps with any of mine amd gpus be it 6950xt or 7900xtx. But that was with early amd agesa and asus bioses. But a while ago I saw hub test 7800x3d with amd and nvidia and the all amd platform had that limited perf in their graphs as well.
