💫💫 It's wonderful how we have so many teachers sharing the Dharma. I know, 'put down your likes and dislikes', but truth be told, I just love listening to Nancy's talks. Thank you for recording and sharing. (*deep bow*)

Uneven floor, bunch of concrete... rug... bird's eye hardwood around a marble diamond in the very center. Each one of us is complete just now. The uneven floor was complete at the very beginning. So why did you try to level the uneven floor? Why did you put a bunch of concrete on it to level it? Why did you put the rug and then the maple birds' eye hardwood floor? Why doing all that work, if the uneven floor was complete the way it was?

How do you know you have karma.

I was recently reading the lucid exposition of the middle way by Candrakirti. And what struck me was sunyata=emptiness. However, the misunderstood meaning of sunyata is not emptiness but absence of being in all things. But even that is not the full meaning in relation to the two truths of our everyday world and that of ultimate reality. And I love Candrakirti final statement. That nirvana does not exist. Nirvana is no-nirvana the lord of existence taught; a knot tied by infinitude and loosed even by the same. The real problem is understanding the middle way. After many years of dharma practice and study I finally realized that all conceptual constructions such as Buddha nature, enlightenment, identity, karma etc are just empty words. Because the Buddha's most important teaching is to understand who is suffering and why. Who is being born. Who is dying. Am I really this body. Is it really mine. When in infancy did this idea of self and other develop. What was I before that. Nirvana is not a realm. It is tied together with samasra. Buddha nature is no nature. Karma is an empty word with no meaning.

Interior resistance (shadow psyche), contraction (body tension) fear, dislike, ego safety strategy to protect via aversion cycle. The skill is to see all this as it is unfolding in the present. Drop the resistance to the resistance. It is a skill, takes courage and time.

The best Zen masters are the ones who don't want to be Zen masters. I think she is a good person. But her understanding of quantum mechanics is way more complex than the way she makes it out to be. As Richard Feynman said. Someone who says they understand quantum mechanics is a fool.
@markjamison80786 ай бұрын
She is right about thinking. It does create the duality. However, not so sure about coming one with the universe while not thinking.

One more thing. And I hope this will help you in your own practice of Zen. I will explain an awakening experience I had a few years ago while in a deep jhana state of absolute samadhi mediation. I remember the experience because when it happened. And it happened suddenly. Mind and body drop off. And drop off consciously. I never laughed so hard. Because I couldn't believe it. But the experience was just the beginning because its the after affects which work on your identity and your idea of what consciousness is. I learned not to take these experiences seriously. Its just the beginning of the journey. I hope this helps.

I like what Ikkyu Sojun said. "Just eat, sleep and shit. that's all you have to do. I agree somewhat with his statement. But I do think we have a way to evaluate our progress in understanding the awakening process leading to the experience called enlightenment. I think by doing meditation and retreats over a long period of time, or even a short period of time, you will have kensho or awakening experiences. And these experiences will work on your psyche to question everything, your identity, and how you view birth and death. These awakening experiences should open you up to direct experience that you are not separate from what you observe. It should make you a more open, kind, and loving individual. Especially, loving everything unconditionally. You should come to the realization that accepting everything be it good or bad, is the way forward. That's how you will know to evaluate your progress.

You are right that is not enlightenment. It's sad that these so called Zen masters are teaching a concept that is incorrect, and that a she is teaching the concept totally unaware she is using her discursive mind. I don't know what enlightenment is. But not knowing is the key. As D.T. Suzuki explained its a process that begins with a turning about in the deepest seat of consciousness. And if it happens it will happen suddenly and unexpectedly. It may not even happen in your lifetime, however, just do the practice, and do not think of attaining anything. Enlightenment will never be explained in words and concepts, or by the discursive mind.

Very good words - the simple can be so elusive. It seems that sound can help me with that - like the sound of the waves - always seems to bring me back to me. Seeing someone speak the truth is very refreshing - especially these days.

Great teaching. So funny, the "this Zen is Bullshit" story. 1. The main difference between thinking and the rest of the 6 senses (seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, feeling, thinking) is that while they are all tools, we tend to regard the thinking tool as ourselves thus getting unhealthily attached to our thoughts. 2. Zen practice is wisdom based in that one learns the deep things in life without the "intellect". (This is perhaps even more clearly stated as accessing the portal to by Eckart Tolle.)
