I visited for 8 days in May. I got around mostly on the bus. The public transport was so easy, loved it. Easy and cheap, the rides were capped at $6 a day so you really could ride unlimited.

Been to Edinburgh lately. I took the tram from the airport. A return ticket was nine pounds fifty and it takes around 30 min to get to Princess street in the city centre. Its a no brainer.

If you are on a real budget you can walk to the next stop for the tram, I think it’s the park and ride. You can get the tram from there to the city centre at the usual rate ie non airport rate. I think it’s £2.50 to the city centre. The trams had to charge the same as the buses as part of the deal for getting to build to the airport. This should save you a bit, like I said if you are on a real budget it’s worth a 5 minute walk. Oh and now the trams go all the way to Leith

I have a question. If passport is expired , is it ok to use only my European id 🪪 ?
@OneJourneyAwayАй бұрын
Generally speaking, since Brexit, European nationals need a valid passport to enter the UK. The UK Government website should give you more information: www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-as-an-eu-eea-or-swiss-citizen

wait a second, ok with the tap when you check in the bus, but when you step off what happens? you tap it as a check-out?
@OneJourneyAwayАй бұрын
You only need to tap when you get into the bus - the fare is not based on the length of your trip. There’s one price for as long as you stay on that bus, so if you need to switch buses, then you pay again when you get on the next bus. Hope this helps!

Just to clarify, a motorhome is the white one effectively with the home built around it and a campervan is the grey one, so if you’re looking to hire one for your trip, you’d be looking for a campervan. We had a Fiat Ducato campervan but there are also Fiat Ducato motorhomes!

Myself and the family used an orange bus at the front door of the Airport to the city and it was only £4 for an adult, staff for that orange bus are even at last stop, really not sure where they get their energy from as they are all so smiley, even let my kids get photo in the seat. Letting your viewers down here the fact you didn’t mention the orange bus. . I didn’t even know about an Airlink until we arrived in the city, we used it on the return to Airport but it was way more expensive, probably cause it was a double decker and was a lot newer, driver said nothing and ticket seller didn’t look like he wanted to be there. I’d use Orange bus next time.

It will be my 1st time in Edinburgh and am considering a free walking tour and I was wondering what is considerate an acceptable tip? Like what is the minimum to max you can tip?
@OneJourneyAwayАй бұрын
We’d say around £10 per person if you can afford it and if you felt that the tour was worth it! Of course you can tip more if you feel it is well deserved. Hope this helps!

@@OneJourneyAway thx alot. I come from a country where tipping isn't part of the culture but appreciated, that's why I was wondering bc I didn't want to look cheap lol. Thanks alot for your answer and for all the tips in your blog.
@OneJourneyAwayАй бұрын
You’re welcome! The tipping culture in the UK is nowhere near as intense as in North America, so we wouldn’t worry too much about tipping here. Like your country, it’s definitely appreciated, but no one’s going to chase you out the door of a restaurant if you don’t leave a tip!

Is a buggy or pram allowed on the buses?
@OneJourneyAwayАй бұрын
Yes, they’re allowed! There are usually 1 or 2 spaces for prams on a bus, depending on the exact bus you get. Hope this helps!

Great which one is better tram or bus?
@OneJourneyAwayАй бұрын
Your preference really! If you prefer riding on a double-decker bus, then opt for the bus. If you prefer a smoother ride, then opt for the tram. We suppose the only thing about the bus is that it might get stuck in traffic (the tram can as well but likely not as much)! Hope this helps!
