I been using grass mats since I was a little boy. But I think this is the hard way. I always put the grass down first then added the rails and stuff on top painted brown ochre or sienna colors on the mat it self.

The video is about the trucks and couplers. I always change to metal wheels to get rid of the pizza cutters.

Wouldn't it of been easier to lay the track on top of the grass roll ?
@mike9377393 ай бұрын
Yes you can put the grass mat down first. In my case I did the track first so I could run some trains.

Very interesting and informative. I have #4 insul-frog turnouts on my HO scale layout, and notice that the driving wheels on my largest locomotive (a 4-6-2 K4) tend to bounce whenever they hit the point of the frog. I'm wondering, then, how I can resolve this issue.

This is just what I needed to see. So many layouts show people using material that you pour onto the layout and then put glue on top of. For my first layout, I need something easier to work with. Thanks for showing me this can look good!
@mike9377398 ай бұрын
Quick way to get some color on the layout. You can always add ground foam on top of it to change the colors.

Great tip! I think it also depends on your rolling stock wheels - some of the older “pizza cutter” wheels are better off being replaced. Also an NMRA gauge has a flange way side which can show you if clearances between guard rails and regular rails is too tight.

I make my pipe loads from plastic straws ranging in size from coffee stirrers to the huge McDonalds straws and paint them before assembly. Once assembled, I use heavy thread as bindings and glue the load to the flat car deck with white school glue (applied sparingly: a little holds a lot). If desired, the load can be later pulled off the flat car and the glue removed with hot water. I found these sell well at model train flea markets for 2/$5 or 5/$10
