ha ha, just revisiting this video, having watched you again we took my CFMoto 450MT out. FYI it's about 18km to the sandy exit lol. Heaps of fun though, that beach is good.

Hard to believe you guys made it on those Groms. I rode the TAT back in 2013, along with 2 other guys. They were on first gen Kawasaki KLR650s, I rode a Yamaha XT225. I think a small bike is actually an advantage on the trail. Speed and power are worthless on the trails. My biggest problem was flat tires. We all had flat tires, but I had the most. I had 5. And we had tube type tires, which were not easy to fix. We all had aftermarket centerstands, and I had an aftermarket 4 gal gas tank. I was 54 years old at the time, several years older than the others. Thanks for the videos. Very entertaining. Hope you are still doing well.

How was the Versys on the dirt? Did I hear you say "it's rough"?
@KiwiGrom
@KiwiGrom 3 ай бұрын
Think that was the Strom pilot complaining. We never had a problem with the Versys on the dirt. Check out the Thai guys racing them on enduro courses on KZbin. Crazy 👍👍

Please describe how bad the rim was damaged... there is plastic spacers to protect rim... if the need to change tire was on the field then I see it would be fine, but now when the work is performed in the garage I suggest to improve... (YHG Motorcycle Rim Protector for Changing Tires, 5 Pcs Tyre Changer Guard Rim Blades Wheel Protectors Tyre Change Tools Tyre) - 10 pounds... and good luck with the bike travels :)

Cheers for the suggestions. Rims already trashed from pebble beaches 🙃 but will look in to some protectors 👍

OMG, you’ve seen the best sights in Waimate where I grew up. We farmed Mt Michael, the peak a little lower than Mt Studholme, but used to start the muster from the transmitter. I’ve driven it several times, but my dad would never let me take the farm bike up it (it didn’t have a front brake). A couple of years ago on the way back from the TT I took Marty and Glenn up to the Woolshed. The road was clearly not maintained like it used to be. Your footage higher up would suggest it’s no better further up - and obviously I know it is way steeper, rockier and narrower further up. How do you reckon it would be on an unladen Super Tenere? Great vid.

Hey mate.. sorry I missed this comment. Wasn't too bad getting up there. A little momentum and you'd be fine on your Super 👍

Its nice to see someone show the reality of changing a tyre. Every other KZbinr seems to make it look easy but thats a full work out and you didn't even so it in the mud and rain.

@KiwiGrom
@KiwiGrom 8 ай бұрын
Will try to do one some day. But if you want to know the trick, I followed this mod to make the plugs accessible and made my own articulated socket from a bolt and a straight plug socket. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGLEdYp7pL9_d6c

Why do you have your passenger footpegs still attached? Is it an offroad oriented T7 or not?

I am wanting to set up a free place to camp with shower , shelter , electricity just 8 miles from John day in Mt. Vernon. Trail goes right past my property.( TAT Riders only) Does anyone think this would get used or be of value to riders?
@KiwiGrom
@KiwiGrom Жыл бұрын
I'm sure it would be really popular with the TAT riders. I dont remember many camp grounds in that area and the 'campground' in John Day wasn't great, but that was 5 years ago 😀 Best jump on the TAT Facebook group.. seems to be where the most activity / info is. The TAT could really use a community site/forum for this kind of thing. Good luck with the campsite.

Looks like you had some fun! The other thing to help get through the soft stuff is take as much preload out of the rear shock as you can. Helps the rear squat and pushes you up out of the soft stuff. Nice work! ❤

Specifically for grom camping? It's been on my list of videos to do for years :) We are still using the same setup we used on the TAT. There is a post on our blog along with a detailed list kiwigrom.com/gear-prep-oooh-shiny/ Obviously the vented gear isn't so good in New Zealand and we've recently updated our stove to a Jetboil. Have 2 of us sharing some gear (stove, tent etc) makes fitting it all on the bikes really easy. Will try to get to the video! Thanks for watching.
