Jon, we lost our son almost 2 years ago on 12/18/22. His birthday was 12/29. XII XXIX I used to be a theology professor for 17 years until 2021. I would show this video to my students after telling them the story of your daughter. We would watch and listen in stunned silence. And weep. We would weep at the loss. At death. At the beauty of the music and the promise of the resurrection. Tonight (12/1/24) was the first time I've been able to watch this video in over 3 years. God bless you brother. We are united in grief. There is no deeper pain than the grief of losing a child.

@@barryjoslin432 Wow… I’m so sorry for your loss. That kind of pain is unlike any other. Thank you for sharing my story. Honestly, this video is still hard for me to watch. I remember writing this song so vividly-the melody came to me, and I was just weeping. It carried so much pain, but also so much hope. That hope is what I always wanted to leave people with through this song. Your comment means so much to me. It’s messages like this that keep me going.

I have an earlier model, Rexburst, with the top loading bridge that is now been replaced with the traditional peg system. I installed a Bill Lawrence pickup in mine for live performance. Play a lot of fingerstyle blues on it. I just recently got the new dreadnought size Jim Dandy, and it is also incredible.

Which volume pedal of best for these gradual swells ? Will the boss FV30 work ? The Ernie ball dp4 transition is very abrupt and the volume come in too quickly and not gradually
@joncarolino2 ай бұрын
The Dunlop volume X has a good option to taper the fade.
@joshuafernandes49352 ай бұрын
@@joncarolino not the taper of the fade … speaking of the “volume coming in “ gradually and not abruptly . The volume not does not come in gradually for the DP4 to create nice swells .

Idk man if you set the intonation and action right on a squire and hard tail the bridge with extra trem springs, and adjust the pickup height they aren’t actually that bad

What’s an IR?
@joncarolino3 ай бұрын
@@LordVestibule An Impulse Response (IR) for guitar is a digital audio file that captures the sonic characteristics of a speaker cabinet, microphone, and the room's acoustics. It's often used in conjunction with amp modeling software or hardware to simulate the sound of a real guitar amp setup. Guitarists use IRs to achieve studio-quality tones without needing physical amps or cabs, making them especially useful for recording and live performances. They allow for a high level of flexibility, letting players switch between different cabinet sounds instantly.

@domdimensions92194 ай бұрын
Great review! Yeah they do have a bit of a boxy tone, right? But that is how a lot of vintage parlour guitars sound, which is what the jim dandy is based on. Simply because of the woods they used and the way they were built, and the small size, they have that boxy tone. The portability is definatñy awesome! And also is good if you want a unique vintage sounding tone. But if you want amazing sustain and that typical boomy bassy acoustic guitar sound, a dreadnought is better.

Great video Carolino. The last point you made about being able to make this ambient music without buying a huge pedal board really helps. I am currently soundtracking a movie called "Ctrl Alt Danger" which called for My Bloody Valentine-ish landscapes. I am going to use your envelope filter you mentioned in the Phat FX plug in for the closing song. Thanks.

Do you find redundancy between the Strymon pedals and the line 6 HX? I have the full helix but can’t seem to justify spending that much on some the helix can do so so similar. Thoughts?
@wfqsfg5 ай бұрын
Just came across this 5 years later. I am interested in the HX effects and looking for demos and critiques. I'm looking to see if this is what I want to get. I also have a Big Sky. I was wondering if the HX effects has something like it. Do I sell it? My preamp is a Two Notes Le Preamp and Cab M. My delay is a TC Triple Delay. I have a couple of specialty pedals like an EHX C9 and Mel9 which I use sometimes to add more to the band sound.
