Owned a 12a powered `78 RX7. Fastest car I ever owned on a straight or cornering. Speedo only went to 180km/h. 6000rpm in 5th and still winding up when the road got too short, by then the speedo needle was nearly back at 0. Wish I hadn`t sold it. Worth a lot now,,,,

My fave was Fury in the Bluebird.

Why is the commentator calling Dicks car a 5.7? A 351 has a capacity of 5766cc meaning it's past the mid way mark of 50cc by a full 16cc meaning it should be referred to as a 5.8. To many day's calling commentary for Bob Jane and Norm Beechey perhaps.

Thanks for posting this, I really miss Australian touring cars, there's so many different cars and capacities, "Supercars" ruined Australian motor racing.

Good old moffat the scumbag cheat got a bit of karma. Banned for 6 weeks in 77 for using illegal roller rockers on his XC falcon black flagged at surfers paradise and refused to pit passing brock after gaining 10 seconds and refusing to adhere to a drive through penalty. black flagged at sandown and refused to pit saying he didn’t see the flag even though it was waved DIRECTLY in front of him then stated he’d won the race against grice which was thrown out in grices favour and used an illegal 6 speed box on this car and admitted decades later he did.

So sad to know that Alan Moffat (85) isn't well. In 2019, it was reported that Moffat was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and had been moved to a specialist healthcare facility. Bob Jane (Died: 28 September 2018) and Peter Brock (Died: 8 September 2006) are both gone . Nice to know though that Dick Johnson (79) , Murray Carter (93) and George Fury (79) are all still with us.

I was a keen watcher of the atcc in the mid to late 80s was a highlight of the week. V8 commodores, BMWs, turbo Nissans, rx7 and a few others good variety of cars drivers and budgets.

I remember when drivers drove their cars to Bathurst raced them and drove them home again. V8 supercars are bullshit and have no relation to anything you can buy off the showroom floor. The variety of cars racing up to the V8 super car era was exciting.

Great compilation! I miss the actual production car racing I grew up on. 'Win Sunday, sell Monday!' Me thinks the GT-R got banned thanks to Europe's hatred of anyone else doing well in Group-A. Europe had already stopped Brock's blue Group-A Commodore from being full homologated so that Walkinshaw could win in his Jag. And thanks to Liberal, we have no car industry here in Oz either.

The fact that Nissan Japan's racing team manager wouldn't allow the Gibson GTRs to compete against his cars in Japan was a ringing endorsement of the Australian engineering skills.
