It is just amazing how good Buddy was. Thanks for the reminder!!!

Is it my imagination or doesn't Rick Zunigar and Pat Metheny sound a lot alike in this late 70s era? So many phrases, flourishes, note choices, feel, groove and sensitivity that overlap to a non-significant extent imo.

Not trying to be one of those guys, but I believe Bobby is playing the second book. With that said, it is a great video find of Bobby playing with Buddy. Who is guy on lead? Does anyone know?
@chasefreak9 күн бұрын
Nope-Bobby was on lead-I know for a fact! He told the story of how he cut his chops on WSS. Brutal charts

This is Milwaukee Summerfest. The Miller beer Jazz Pavilion. I was there. They were selling a "pound of beer" for about a buck fifty. By the time Mynard came on, I was probably listening from underneath the picnic bench. Jazz bands all day.

HOW AKWARD : To advance to the top of your craft, and while there to succumb to the illness closest to your most essential body part that accomplished it. Life is a BEEEECH, (not the airCRAFT). . . a lottery of genes.

Great Count Basie ❤️
@basiebasie-iw3qz19 күн бұрын
I think Duke Ellington is a musical poet while Count Basie is a musical scientist. Few notice that Count Basie has a very refined touch on the piano that has nothing to envy of the great Vladimir Horowitz (my favorite classical pianist). Basie is the difficult ease: making those 3 notes as he does them is more difficult than playing an entire Beethoven Sonata. Great Wiliam Basie ❤️❤️

I had never heard of pianist Garfield. He was excellent. And his Wikipedia bio is extremely impressive. Bassist Klein is another heavyweight. And Rick Zunigar was unique in that he used a thumb pick on his right hand. Most of us should also be at least fairly familiar with the late drummer Carlos Vega. The song obviously is Charles Lloyd’s “Forest Flower.”

What a ridiculous comment, you may not enjoy the style of music but guess what, others like me who appreciate great musicianship do. Elevator music it ain’t. Perhaps you can link us to examples of your own playing to show us how it is done?
