Actually you will have the classic problem for dam, to have in time, the water will dig around your damn because of the erosion and water pressure. The water will fill all the microscopique gap between your dam and the dirt wall., that will making the dirt inflate and fragilise the whole structure and thz ground around. Maybe in sunny day, your structure will resist some month or years but the minute after your dam will be at max water retention+bad weather condition, you will have a breach and a tsunami :/ You need to anchor the dam and need to stabilize the around of your damn and make water proof or your structure will fall
