Seen the film and of age to have seen it back in the day. I would say Afterlife has a better flow and character build up as you mentioned. I think with all these new sequels of old franchises including the new Disney Star Wars films and series. I think if you need bring something new to the table like in Andor or the Mandalorian, you've got to completely go outside of the box which is why Afterlife worked well, it was in a different setting and introduced the new characters slowly. But was weird that they bought back Gozer the Gozerian? The special effects (mostly practical effects too! - Check out the Adam Savage GB tour videos) and acting were good but I think, yes they are playing it safe with the old formula and in a sense it felt like it was more akin to Ghostbusters 2 than 1. Still great entertainment and fun, but will be definitely watching it again later on in the year.

I'm intrigued, as a long time fan what would you want to see in a new Ghostbusters film?
@MrChezaj3 ай бұрын
@@KeepingItReel I dunno probably something not predicable where there is a darker edge or they could throw something into the mix like time travel or quantum physics. I've just been watching Antman and Wasp in Quantumania, something like this would be fun, but this film is a trip so I'm not sure ;-) Also I've been meaning to play the Ghostbusters: The Video Game as this was considered the 3rd film as it uses ideas from the 3rd film script. Also the Ghostbusters (2016 film) - it was funny / goofy / entertainment, but was similar to 1. Not the best but OK.

They definitely landed the ending but i do think that had they given it more time..even if it's just one or 2 more ep of them together....the ending would have been even more crushing even more perfect. Hardly putting people off, this is the sort of film that appeals to mass audiences because it's considered brainless 'fun', but Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island had a bit more going for them overall and I just wish they'd try and give the more recent Monsterverse films a bit more substance and style. Fair play you enjoyed it but I'm just offering an opinion, not exactly a stupid one

I like that both parts have radical endings. Part 1’s ending feels intentionally contrary to modern blockbuster structure. The climatic battle occurs (Villeneuve even pulls away from this) and the film still has an hour left. And it ends with a retreat to the oasis with our main duo surrounded by entirely new characters. The ending of Part 2 feels just as disorienting. One could argue that the sequence of scenes: Paul embracing becoming Lisan al Giab, Emperor learning Paul is still alive, Emperor landing on Arrakis, Paul rallying the Fremen, could have had more scenes relating a sense of time passing. But the quickness of it gives a sense of disorientation that mimics the quickening in Paul’s psychosis. It feels almost like a fever dream.
@KeepingItReel4 ай бұрын
That's definitely an interesting take! I thought the final 30 minutes of Part 1 stunted the pace and engagement of the film overall but without doubt solidified the narrative back towards Paul and his journey into becoming an independent survivalist. I think Part 2 left me wanting more from it's final act mostly because what we did get was great, there just wasn't enough of it. Great analysis though 👍

Rare occasion where I mostly disagree. I loved the colour schemes and thought some of the greens they got out from the tress looked stunning, especially towards the end of that final race. I do agree there was not enough to distinguish the difference between a lot of the cars and drivers in the final race however. Regardless I found it a highly enjoyable film and look forwards to Heat 2. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on Society of the Snow, which I just watched. Maybe a comparison to the original film based on the same events, Alive would make for an interesting video.

You don't understand why the World Building is so thin. Snyder lifted dozens of elements from Warhammer 40K. The trouble is if he started to give any backstory to those elements he would need to invent everything from scratch or risk Games Workshop / Amazon studies filing a lawsuit. As it is he skirted legality, I'd give a copyright lawsuit a 60 to 80 percent chance of success, but is it worth it for a nil-profit flop? Anyway, you'll see 40K under Cavil and under him it will be done right.
@KeepingItReel6 ай бұрын
I think any sci-fi world building is going to feel heavily derivative of many different lores and franchises, hoping the extended cut at least feels like an attempt to give the characters room to breathe even if the planets and universe are still wafer thin
@darthkek19536 ай бұрын
@@KeepingItReel derivative is one thing, it means to make your own thing based on something else. In essence the Sarlacc was derived from the Sand Worm. Same but different. Toothy desert vagina instead of toothy desert penis. Same idea different form. Plagiarism is different. If Tatooine was full of spice-pooping toothy desert penises that would be plagiarism. Snyder plagiarised, not derived.
