Is the washing machine pump ok with that up vertical connection?

A low-tech approach is simply to have a dedicated hose with 1/8" holes drilled every 12 inches or so (You can alternate which side of the hose the holes are places so you get a better spread). Cap off the open end so you get back pressure. I have quick-connect fittings on my hoses, so I can swap out the extension with holes in it. In fact, I have one hose that does a row of trees, and I never move that one; I just swap connections to use a different one or an extension to run the drip hose farther, like to the tree near the front of the property. The other hose gets moved around after each load of laundry so everything gets some water. Also, I use Ecos brand detergent since it's made with plant oils. Been using it for years, and it's kept the plants thriving, even in droughts.

I have installed a gray water system on a straw bale home I am building in Phoenix, Arizona. I am researching the type of filters that are available to install in the ground to filter the gray water before it reaches the emiters. Any recommendations?

do you still make this? I do not see on your website? I am building a shower that will be about 4.5" above a slab and the slab will have a hole to access the P trap and plumbing. I think this would make accessing the valve much easier. vs a gate or 3 way valve

This is a rather disappointing video. The description says this video will show us, "How Many DIY Greywater Aquifer Pipes To Use," and "how to calculate how many Aquifer pipes you're going to need, spacing and zones." In reality, it doesn't show how to calculate anything. For example, how do you determine how many pipe lines will you need for a given amount of greywater? How long should they be? How do you keep from overloading the system? How are you supposed to figure out how many pipe sections you need, and their configuration? More detail is needed! As is, this video just tells us that we might need to have zones, and how to do that. Also. for zones. why couldn't you use distribution box, as in a septic system, which would feed all lines equally? Why is this approach not recommended?

Nice set up. Question for you. When the gate valve is closed and water is duverted to the grey water system, it looses access to the vent pipe. Isnt this a problem?

This is brilliant. I'm looking for solutions for re-routing graywater pipes from our kitchen to the sewer line, after discovering broken terracotta pipes in our basement. The plumber is estimating $5000+ to fix it, b/c he'd have to do concrete work. I asked abt re-routing them instead, which would be $1200, but meant that there would be a 30ft horizontal pathway for the water, that he said would back up. The idea of collecting it & installing a pump is friggin fantastic, & very helpful. Thank you.

Do you feel like you need to use 2” pvc. I’m considering the aquifer but I only divert my laundry water. Do you think it’s worth doing for just the laundry?

A washing machine can put out a lot of water very quickly. Are these totes and drain lines able to handle that flow? I’m thinking they can because it’s a flow through system. But I wanted to ask anyway.

While searching for a clog, the plumbers found what appears to be a second septic tank for greywater - if there was a surge tank attached to this septic tank, where might it be? I'll need to do a lot more digging to establish the extent of the system but I don't know what direction to go!

How is this the land of the free if we can’t even do this without paying for their permissions when it’s a free land it means you can do and put what you want in your property ,so even thoe it’s your home we still need to ask and not just ask pay the pipper for what’s already costing us money to make ,can’t believe so many people believe the bs about being free ,you are just allow to do more things if you have the money to pay for them.

Have you combined the grey water system with a rainwater system?

Why focus only on gray water? Couldn’t you integrate into natural precipitation collection system as well (e.g., roof)? That will help the missed marketing commentary on net saving (total water in now much bigger than water in municipal which convents to 90% sewer charge)

Ohhhh… I am super interested in this. I’m going to be moving to the desert soon (on septic if that makes any difference) and while I want to keep the yard as native and drought tolerant as possible, I would like some nice planted areas. I need to learn more. 😃

Would I be able to apply your greywater system practices of burying the pipes in the yard to water yard ground up if I use drainage pipe? I live in Hawaiʻi and it’s crazy expensive to get your pipes shipped here. We scored a lot of the black drainage pipe with holes around the entire thing. Our yard is made out of coral and very fine dirt. Dolby I think it’s called? We live along the west coast of Oahu. We need a heavy duty machine to dig the trenches for our yard to lay the pipe. But before we do that I was curious if you ever used drainage pipe before creating your own special grey water drainage pipe. And how was the results from using drainage pipe? Mahalo

Use a manual pvc hand cutter. It will give a much cleaner cut, less work and no chance of hairs or other debris getting caught on rough edges of pipe.

Hi ,can a submersible 12 or 24 v pump be placed inside to pump out to dripper pipes ?

Should have drilled through the block. Not recommended to extend the washer discharge hose to extend more than 12” above the machine. It will work but you’ll be replacing the pump prematurely. Those pumps are not very strong nor made to pump water vertically over 12”.

With respect to "holding" grey water. Is it considered holding if the water passes through a filter tank, over flows into a sand filter, and continues into a retention pond? The retention pond is used for irrigation.
