if you use a diverting pipe irrigation system do you even need that blue filter material?

have you found if the filtering is sufficient to pump through drip emitters or tec line, in line drip irrigation? I'm planning to build with an additional mesh filter after the pump.

How do I know when I need to use a pump to get the water out? How much drop is needed to move the water about 80 feet without a pump?
