My son is stationed in San Diago. He says he thinks of me n his mom I retired after 34+ yrs FF Medic Diver . Don’t take any day for granted. Be ready mind body and soul. Don’t rely on anyone until you can’t do it yourself ! to keep sharp &train I will say big city or a smaller Dept don’t just walk the walk. I was class 186 MFA after being a ff for 23 yrs - 43 yr old guy got it done ! My sons a Usmc Officer pilot he has our training as well as his ! I will be out to visit ! Worcester 6 stuff I ll bring.

Makes me think about when I got my offer from a different city. It Came through email while I was walking to my car ina parking lot. I started screaming an jumping around in excitement also. U never forget that moment.

Nice training engines and trucks now! When I went through we were using old open cab seagraves, an old seagrave arial later an old Clark and they had old truck 21 from the 80's which was a seagrave tiller. I left during week 12 for Long Beach FD but looks like SDFD's training cl facility has grown!

Lee Hart Unsure of the actual law or protocol but the short of it is safety. We had them inside the rig and found that our guys weren't wearing their seatbelts in an effort to be faster out of the door.

I was wondering what is the best thing that some one could do to try to get hired on with a larger department like San Diego with no prior FF/EMT experience?

+Jackson Kane. Not sure there is a difference between getting prepared for a big department or small department. Each department has its own culture and traditions. Best thing to do to get hired here is get some experience on an ambulance first. Or explorer program or a reserve program. The more experience you have the better. But none of that is actually required. Always take the test. Every time it comes out. Take any and all tests. Better yourself. You never know where it will lead you.
